Why Did Jesus Die?
Why is this one death so important?
Jesus Died for Us
For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for
many.” (Mark 10:45 ESV)
He is the example of serving others
…who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people
for his own possession who are zealous for good works. (Titus 2:14 ESV)
His service was to redeem, to pay the price
Jesus Died for Our Sins
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also
received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the
Scriptures, (1 Corinthians 15:3 ESV)
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of
God. (2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV)
Jesus Died for Our Sins
The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full
acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the
world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.
(1 Timothy 1:15 ESV)
Paul saw the problem of sin as HIS problem.
Jesus died for us because we sin.
Jesus Died to Bring us to God
Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear
dull, that it cannot hear; but your iniquities have made a
separation between you and your God, and your
sins have hidden his face from you so that he does
not hear.
(Isaiah 59:1-2 ESV)
Jesus Died to Bring us to God
…but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since,
therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the
death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
(Romans 5:8-10 ESV)
We make ourselves enemies of God
Jesus Died to Bring us to God
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, (1 Peter 3:18 ESV)
And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the
beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he
might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was
pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the
blood of his cross. (Colossians 1:18-20 ESV)
Jesus Died to Bring us to God
Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
(2 Corinthians 5:20 ESV)
We contact the blood by contacting the death of Jesus
