Why should the Government fund British Film?

Public funding for film is estimated to have been £266 million in the financial year 2009/10.

The largest single source of funding was the UK film tax relief, which provided £95 million in 2009/10, 36% of the total.

Second largest was the National Lottery; £60 million in 2009/10, 23% of the total

Third largest came from the UK Film Council (funds now given by the BFI)

Choose any organisation below the UK Film Council to research. What does the organisation do? How does this benefit the film industry? How does this benefit the film audience? List some of the films (if applicable) that the organisation produced in 2011. List some films they are currently working on. Do the films from the organisation have a similar theme, style and target audience?

Stretch and Challenge

Having researched some of the ways that public money is spent on UK film; do you think that the current Government should increase funding for UK Film?

Give reasons for your answer. Some factual; some your own opinion.
