When Job HuntingWhy Your Mindset Matters

Not too long ago, a gentleman called Dave Ramsey on his radio show and said that he was having trouble while job hunting.

His business had failed and it seemed as though everyone he interviewed with was labeling him a loser.

He also speculated that people might not want to hire him because of his religious beliefs.

Dave went through some basic questions and after hearing the caller talk, he said that it seemed more like he felt like a loser than that anyone was labeling him as such.

The man admitted he felt that way since declaring bankruptcy.

We Exude our Outlook

When we feel good it shows. People can see the confidence, contentment, drive, and other positive qualities coming out of us.

However, the same is true of our depression, doubt, and hopelessness.

When we don't believe in ourselves, it's hard for someone else to look beyond that.

This is especially true when it comes to hiring managers for executives.

People want to bring in those who will refresh and complement the organization.

Now, it may be true that we do not always feel "up" but when it comes to interviewing, candidates have only one chance and many have the same credentials:

•Good education• Accomplishments in the field•Great references

The interview can make the difference and if they cannot remember you, or they only remember that you didn't make them feel great about meeting you, they will not consider hiring you for the position.

After all, hundreds of jobs may be at stake, bringing the next point.

What are you all about?

A big part of one's attitude is how they perceive the work they are doing.

Some executives succeed while looking out for their own best interests, but true leaders are concerned about the organization.

This includes the company's team, reputation, customer service, and involvement in the community.

Candidates who believe that how they do business matters can offer something very unique, especially when they show that their approach to leading is long-term and team-focused.

Prepare Your Mindset

There is a lot of positive thinking literature on this subject, and we wouldn't discourage someone from using a method they find works in order to get into the right mindset -

- but the truth is that getting into the right mindset can be done just by realizing that if they hire you they'll be better off, and if you know that, they will get that impression as well.

Just as the man who called Dave Ramsey said that interviewers were labeling him, you can know that was not the result of the interviewers, but of himself.

His mannerisms would have reflected his down-trodden attitude, and executive recruiters (and executive staff members) would have noticed.

When you carry yourself with confidence as a result of knowing that you are who they are looking for, that will also show.

It will show in yourhandshake, step and smile.

And when you smile, they'll besmiling back to make an offer.
