The next Newsletter will be pub-lished on August 29.
All articles need to be submitted
by August 21 to be included.
Summer is wrapping up and school is on the horizon. It seems to go by
so quickly. So let’s think about the fall and the beginning of a new educational
season. For the church there is the ongoing challenge of helping people grow
in the knowledge and grace of God. That requires attention, effort and disci-
pline on our part. God’s Word speaks to us by the power of the Holy Spirit, as
we put our souls in play by the study of the Bible.
There are no short-cuts. God’s plan is for us to feed on him and his
word on a regular basis:
2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for
teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the
man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.
Romans 15:4 For whatever was written in former days was written for our
instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the
Scriptures we might have hope.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two
-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of
marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Psalm 19:10-11 More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them
is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
So let me highlight some opportunities for growing in knowledge this fall:
Adult Sunday School 9:45am Children and Youth Sunday School 9:45am New Members Class September 15 and 29 9:45am Pilgrimage September 19-22 Camp Buckner Women’s Circles 3rd Tuesdays 10:00am & 7pm Women’s Bible Study TBA If none of these options work for you, then let’s talk and see what
we can make happen. Let’s get into the Word together and find the life God
intends for us.
Pastor Clint
Pastor Clint will be on vacation August 23 thru 30.

Church Financial News General Operating Requirement - $23,493/Mo Last 12 Months July2013(to date) $291,861 $14,604
The Council met on July 16, 2013 for its regular stated meeting. Council heard a report on the youth and family surveys and approved moving forward with hiring the Youth Ministry Architects group (Small Church Ministry Architects) for an assessment, consulting, and recommendations for building a sustainable youth ministry at WPC. We anticipate the consultant will be here September 6-8 to meet with various “listening groups” of youth, parents, volunteers/teachers, church leaders, the personnel committee, interested members, etc. This is an exciting opportunity for WPC and we need input from as many folks as possible. Please reserve this weekend if possible! Council also discussed attendance and scheduling for Potluck Suppers (monthly, quarterly, etc.), needs for the Back to School Fiesta, calling a congregational meeting for August 18 for electing the Church Nominating Committee, and heard gen-eral reports from the Committees.

Vacation Bible School 2013
God's Amazing Creation was celebrated at WPC's Vacation Bible School this month! We used a 'home-grown' curriculum developed by Opal and Richard Barnett that taught the children about the Gospel of Jesus by focusing on His creation. Trees were the central focus this year. A motivated team of volunteers transformed the church into a forest, which set the scene for an exciting week.
Each group of children sat 'under the trees' in the sanctuary and participated in Bible study with Pastor Clint. Throughout their day, they enjoyed activities that reinforced their understanding of what trees do, and how God uses them to provide for people and the earth. The children built birdfeeders, made wildflower seed balls, created beautiful burlap wall hangings, played games, watched videos, fed animals and shared snacks together. An underlying theme of this year's programs was 'relationships.' Team sizes were intentionally kept small, so team leaders would have an opportunity to field questions about everything that was be-
ing taught, and to get to know their children better. The slow pace of the activities allowed a lot of hands-on time and one-on-one instruction from our activity teams. Teams were allowed to create their own team names which reflected their personalities. It took a lot of volunteers to make this Vacation Bi-ble School successful. We offer sincere thanks to the following individuals who made it possible: Opal and Richard Barnett, Mellissa Armstrong, Karen My-ers, Lynn Williams, Suzie Churchill, Pam Tannahill, Clint Regen, Robert Miller, Janice Herreth, Joyce
Hendrix, Mandy Perez, Carlene Higgins, Judy Nichols, Eric Eskelund, Gordon Butler, Warren Kolar, Kim Hyde, Wellborn Gregg, Adrian Ramsey, Amber Hyde, Dave Slider, Margaret Busch, Linda Corbitt, Christi Youens, Madge Lis-comb, Kathryn Sturdivant, Emma Junkin, Teri Carter, Chloe Lowrance, Brady Corbitt, Tony Gibbs, Barbara Barks, Joel Barks, Trevor Richter, Sandra Gregg, Gay Wilkerson, Janet Casper, Nita Bagby, Teresa Ward, Marlynn But-ler, Rosalie Laumbach, Marcia Easley, Valerie Chandler and Catherine Re-gen. Special thanks to our neighbors at King Feed Store, who provided two beautiful live trees for the sanctuary, and at Ace Hardware, who provided popcorn for snacks and lumber for bird feeders at a great price! Vacation Bible School planning for 2014 has already begun. We will be presenting 'God's Amazing Creation: Water,' another curriculum developed by members of our church. Mellissa Arm-strong has agreed to direct the program. The dates are July 21-24 and its not too early to volun-teer! If you're interested in getting onboard early, please contact the church office and leave your name with Janice.
