Winter Improvements at Atlanta Area Council Summer Camp Facilities

We have been busy all winter long preparing for the 2012 summer camp season with exciting improvements 

and general sprucing up in anticipation of eager Scouts arriving at camp to 

have the time of their lives!

We’ve Been Busy at Bert Adams Getting Ready for You!    

• Enhanced convenience with new parking in Gorman• Improved access with road improvements in Gorman and Emerson

• Enhanced safety, connectivity and program support with addition of new cell tower

• Improved Unit support with new campfire rings, seating and flagpoles in Adventure Camp

• Enhanced program support with AV and other improvements to Bill Loeble Room 

• Repainting of Health Lodge interior

Safety was the Primary Consideration when installing the Cell Tower

• The Goal is to maximize reception throughout our camps  so that Emergency calls could get through regardless of where the activity is occurring.

• Reliable communication is essential to Scout Safety especially in an emergency where response time is critical.

• The Council Health and Safety Committee is a strong proponent of this effort.

Connectivity was a main consideration for locating the Cell Tower

• Leaders have asked for improved connectivity in order to stay in touch with home and business while at camp.

• More and more of today’s leaders must base their decision to attend camp on their ability to remain connected to their work and home.

• Connectivity is an essential support to the leader of today and tomorrow and Atlanta is leading the way.

We’ve been busy improving Camp Woodruff all Winter too!

• Improved Camper Comfort by Remodeling Shower Facility # 2

• Improved Safety, Connectivity and Program Capabilities with installation of New Cell Tower

• Improved Safety and Access with Road Improvements

• Increased Convenience with Additional Satellite Parking and other Parking Improvements

• Addition to Handicraft Pavilion to better handle high demand

• Improved Signage• Painting and Sprucing up including repainting of the Donnell Nature Center

• New Fencing around Chapel and New Benches for Camper Convenience

Many Areas at Woodruff will significantly improved cell service

• Cell Reception in the “back loop” of sites will be significantly improved.

• Cell reception in the outlying program areas will also be improved.

• Cell reception to outpost programs will be improved. 

• This improved reception is a tremendous safety enhancement.

• Program Leadership means harnessing Technology to enhance our Program 

• We will be using iPads in several program areas this summer in order to enhance program delivery

• Improved internet access will allow new program support opportunities

• Technology can enhance the Scouting outdoor experience and Atlanta will lead the way
