Woolwich Wharf upgradeMay 2020
The NSW Government is improving Woolwich Wharf as part of the Transport Access Program – an initiative to deliver accessible, modern, safe transportation. Woolwich Wharf will be temporarily closed from Wednesday 10 June 2020 for about five months, weather permitting. Ferry services will operate to Clarke Road Wharf during construction.
Construction will take about five months to complete, weather permitting.
The wharf will be closed during the upgrade. Work will also be carried out on Valentia Street. A temporary bus stop will be installed near the existing waiting shelter. Parking spaces at the roundabout will not be available for use during construction and there will be some temporary changes to parking on Valentia Street during work required for electricity services. A temporary construction site compound will be established near the wharf for the duration of the project. The area will be fenced off and access restricted to authorised personnel and visitors.
The standard work hours will be between:
} 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday
} 8am and 1pm on Saturday
No work is planned on Sundays or public holidays.
Some out of hours work may be required while we carry out work, including:
} resurfacing the car park at night to avoid disruption to daily bus services
} installing piles and lifting sections of the wharf in place at night or in the early morning when water is very still for accuracy and safety.
Installing piles will be noisy, however, this work will be spaced out. We will contact nearby residents before any work occurs outside of standard hours.
Construction activities will include: } site establishment from Wednesday 3 June –
installing fencing, site hoarding and site sheds before the temporary closure of the wharf
} removing and replacing existing wharf structures
} installing steel piles, a new entry bridge, gangway and pontoon
} new wharf fit out including new seating and customer information
} improving footpaths and raising a section of seawall
} improving accessible parking spaces
} installing new kiss and ride parking and new bicycle hoops
} improving bus waiting shelter and toilet
} installing wayfinding signage.
