WHAT IS REDCAP?

WHAT IS REDCAP?REDCap is a mature, secure web application for building and managing online surveys and databases. Using REDCap's stream-lined process for rapidly developing projects, you may create and design projects using 1) the online method from your web browser using the Online Designer; and/or 2) the offline method by constructing a 'data dictionary' template file in Microsoft Excel, which can be later uploaded into REDCap. Both surveys and databases (or a mixture of the two) can be built using these methods. REDCap provides automated export procedures for seamless data downloads to Excel and common statistical packages (SPSS, SAS, Stata, R), as well as a built-in project calendar, a scheduling module, ad hoc reporting tools, and advanced features, such as branching logic, file uploading, and calculated fields.

WHAT IS REDCAP?A powerful tool that:

Provides a more efficient way to collect and process information you need for your job

Creates handy dandy little surveys tailored to exactly what you need Grows the areas of your brain responsible for logic and complex thinking Makes your life better

REDCap Is All This And More!!

REDCAP PROJECTS IN EPIDEMIOLOGYInspiration to Dive In

REDCAP PROJECTS IN EPIDEMIOLOGY The Healthy Stomach Study: A VICTR Pilot

Project workflow Appointment tracking and scheduling Participant tracking Sample tracking Other documentation – gift cards

Vanderbilt-Shanghai Chronic Disease Research Training Program (VSCDRTP) Multi-year trainee tracking and data collection for reporting requirements

The Vanderbilt Training Program in Molecular and Genetic Epidemiology of Cancer (MAGEC) Online application Submission of recommendation Letters Training program evaluation Data collection for reporting requirements

REDCAP PROJECTS IN EPIDEMIOLOGY Future Projects

Training Database of Pre- and Post-doctoral Entrants to Epidemiology Fulfillment of promises made in our T32 renewal Required information for at least one training table Difficult to collect and track otherwise

Division of Epidemiology Appointment Database Appointment tracking at all levels Documentation and workflow Multi-User Interface Triggers for Necessary Data collection Quality Assurance and Back-up Documentation Bridge communication

REDCAP PROJECTS IN EPIDEMIOLOGY Future Projects

MAGEC Multi-Year Trainee Tracking As required by NIH Similar to the VSCDRTP

All Training Tables for the Department Formatted for the new tables required by NIH Generate reports and copy or adjust formatting as needed Possible multi-user interface to shift data collection burden

MANAGE SURVEY PARTICIPANTS

NEXT STEPSHow will you use REDCap?

BRAINSTORM

Take a few minutes to think about tasks that you must complete on a regular basis.

BRAINSTORM

What types of information do you have to gather for these tasks? Do you have to request this information

from multiple people? Could you use a survey to more easily gather and keep track of this information?

BRAINSTORM

Do others need to submit information to you or make requests on a regular basis, such as through

forms/word documents? How do you keep track of this information, currently? Could REDCap help you keep track and complete these requests more efficiently?

BRAINSTORM

Do you have complex multi-step projects that you have difficulty keeping track of? Projects that require

multiple users to complete different components? Would you like some of the steps to have automated

triggers? For instance, you do part A and that sends an email to someone to complete part B?

BRAINSTORM

Try to think of at least one project you could do with REDCap that could reduce your workload, time spent, or otherwise make things easier, then just dive in and

see what you can create.
