Accurate UCR/NIBRS reporting begins with excellent report writing.

+ Whether you are transitioning to NIBRS or already there, this practicaland informative course will help your officers, FTO's, supervisors, andrecords personnel better understand crime reporting. UnderstandingNIBRS rules regarding how many reports to write, what needs to be in thereport for accurate NIBRS coding, and the NIBRS definitions of crimes willhelp ensure your agency produces quality crime stat reports efficiently byminimizing report kickbacks for corrections.

+ Report writing scenarios will be discussed along with hands-on training inthe supervisor review process. Writing good reports and producingaccurate crime statistics is a team effort. This is an excellent "train-the-trainer" opportunity.

+ Please note that this course is specific to NIBRS reporting. If your agencyis still submitting summary reports, this course will help you gain a betterunderstanding of NIBRS requirements and prepare for the transition toNIBRS reporting.QUESTIONS

Joseph Surges is a a California public records instructor with over 27 years of experience in law enforcement records operations. Joseph served with the Concord Police Department from 2000-2016 as the Records Manager and began his career in 1991 with the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office. Joe has served twice as President of CLEARS and as the CLEARS Legislative Chair from 2002-2009. Joseph also served on the POST State Records Manual revision project and on curriculum development for the POST Basic Records and Records Supervisor courses.
