Volume 4, Issue 3 Third Quarter, 2011
in this issue:
tomfoolery! whimsy! games!switch! G. Gilbert! taqueria! simplyput! Westside Resevoir Park! And Much, Much More...
On a clear blue day last July, a thousand tomato devotees descended upon WESTSIDE PROVISIONS DISTRICT for JCT’s Attack of the killer tomato festival benefitting georgia organics. They danced, they dined, they drank and they debauched. When the dust settled, they had raised $40,000 for Georgia Organics, and dozens of bright red balloons ascended into the heavens! (kidding! we would never litter like that!) We couldn’t stand the idea that the fun was over for another year, so we decided to devote our q3 issue of wspd news to all things tomato. enjoy!

THE BEEFKIDS, DECOR,
FASHION & DINING
Once upon a time in a little shop called switchmodern, a small
wooden car awaited discovery. “The max push car is perfect for
the young toddler imagination,” said the shopkeeper. “A minimalist
design gives the youngster free reign to pretend, and its non-marking
wheels make it perfect for rumbling around the house.” And speaking
of rumbling, we’ve been hearing some rumbling about...
A new WSPD shop called simplyput! Custom Cards are their specialty, so
whether you’re getting married or
throwing one of those “we’re splitting up”
parties like jack white and Karen Elson
just did, simplyput’s got you covered.

Holy film shoot batman! The
crew at G. Gilbert was
packing up, getting ready
to close for renovations
when lo and behold, the crew
from the USA Network show
“Necessary Roughness” popped
in to film a few scenes...
Taqueria tostada!A crispy corn tortilla round topped with a fresh sliced tomato, cueritos (pickled pork skin) relish and habanero aioli.
Relish:mix pickled pork with red + yellow tomatoes, serrano peppers, a splash of white vinegar, blended oil, oregano, garlic and a bay leaf
Aioli:Mix egg yolks, lemon juice, Red Yucateco, blended oil and salt
The big finish:Top a corn tortilla round with a slice of tomato. Heap the relish on top and add a dollop of aioli. Garnish with shaved Romain lettuce and nomnomnomnomnom...
“It was a lot of fun,” said Ginna (posing above with Dr. Dani Santino). G. Gilbert has since reopened with a new look. Stop by and check it out!
While all of that was going on, chef Eddie from Taqueria del sol was preparing his delicious entree for the attack of the killer tomato festival. We snuck into his workshop and stole his trade secrets. (“Um, I
gave that to you,” says Eddie. What? la la la la la we can’t hear you!)
This is the story of a girl who loved a square, even though it was round. clue: The ladies at flor created this multi-toned tomato rug by mixing and matching Flor tiles of complimentary textures and hues to piece together something utterly novel.
ooooh, you might as well give up now because you will never ever ever guess this one! Clue: Feast your eyes on this Lovely coyuchi bedding from terra cottage. The term “Coyuchi” is an aztek word referring to the color of a coyote.
Left clue: any way you slice the tomato, These pure black Stelton knives from switchmodern are perfect.
RIGHT clue: from room & board, The Hess Sofa. (oops,
did we say hess?)

Now let’s play the t mato game!
Here are a
few tomato
varieties. See if
you can match
them to the
photos!
1. hess
2. berkley tie dye
3. Black magic
4. rocker
5. heirloom
6. argentina
7. brown flesh
first one to get
them all right
wins a million
bucks! (of course there is no way to
prove you are the
winner so, oopsie! At
least you know in your
heart that you are a
winner! Win! Win! Win!)

Clue: From environment furniture: Tomatoes with blue cheese, olive oil and sea salt on OlMAY Heirloom French Pottery.
Clue: the classic “open rocker” exercise as demonstrated by core westside. (how on earth could
a tomato variety ever be linked to
THAT?!?! oh, wait...)
This affordable, drinkable malbec is a favorite of perrine’s wine shop. Clue: to fully appreciate this wine, you must read the label!
the answers (no peeking!): hess = room & board, berkley tie dye = flor, black magic = switch, rocker = core westside, heirloom = environment, argentina = perrines wine shop, brown flesh = terra cottage (“Coyuchi” also refers to natural brown cotton).

Q. Why did you decide to make your home at white Provision?A. I love the laid-back vibe of this neighborhood. It’s upscale but approachable, quality without all the pretension. I’m also a sucker for adaptive re-use architecture. Give me railroads and brick!
Q. Tell us a little bit about Atlanta Waterworks Park.A. Many folks don’t realize that the space around the Waterworks used to be a publicly accessible park for most of the last century. Unfortunately, the city decided to fence it all off before the ‘96 Olympics as a security precaution.
Q. So, how can we convince the city to return the waterworks to a functioning park?
Chris Palmer
Face of wspdMeet Chris Palmer, Westside enthusiast, lover of budget
gourmet eats and Waterworks Park advocate. Chris says, “To Get involved with Atlanta waterworks park, look for us on Facebook and
Twitter!”
A. Advocacy. We need the combined efforts of Atlanta citizens and local businesses regularly communicating with Mayor Reed and City Council about the benefits of accessible park space on the Westside. The major advantage of the Waterworks park is that it already exists. We just need to release it from its cage!
