So remember, your mom likes to hear you say, "I love you," but she likes it even more when you show her that you love her.

I'm sure you do. Do you think Jesus likes to hear you say, "I love you?" I know He does. But he likes it even better when you show Him that you love Him. How do you do that? He told us how. He said, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teachings." The Bible is full of things that Jesus taught us. You show him that you love him by obeying his teaching.

REMINDER:REMINDER:When you leave here today, don't forget to tell your mom that you love her, but more important, show her that you love her. As we worship today, tell Jesus that you love him, but more important, remember to show him that you love him by doing the things that he taught us.

OBJECT LESSON: THREE OBJECT LESSON: THREE DIFFERENT APPLESDIFFERENT APPLES

Raise your hand if you think these three apples all came from the same

tree.

You’re right.

They did not.

FAMILYFAMILYThis Green Apple came from a tree where all the apples looked like this one.  This Red Delicious came from a tree where they all look like it, and the same with this little Fuji apple. In nature, you would not find one tree that had all three different kinds of apples. The Bible teaches us in Genesis 1:11 that every seed will bring forth a fruit of its own kind.

LESSON 1: GOD’S ETERNAL LESSON 1: GOD’S ETERNAL LOVE FOR MELOVE FOR ME

Just like with the apples, people from the same family tree will have the same looks – the same skin color, eyes, hair, height, shape of the nose, body shape, and many other things. This happens because all these physical characteristics are passed on from one generation to another. You may have red hair and your parents don’t, but maybe your grandmother or grandfather had red hair. Isn’t that cool?

There is another kind of family tree that we can all belong to no matter what our last name is. In this family we will not all look like each other. Which family am I talking about? Yes, God’s family. No matter what your last name is, what you look like, or what country you live in ~ you can be apart of God’s Family Tree.

And if we belong to God’s tree… He will give us all we need to be perfect apples because we are a part of Him and He loves us.

WHO AMONG BELONGS TO GOD’S FAMILY???

Here is one more thing to think about. God chooses into which family we will be born and with what physical characteristics we will have.

God chose which family I was born into and how I would look, but God cannot make you or me be apart of His family tree.

God wants us to be one of His children in His family, but we have to make that choice ourselves to accept Him as our Heavenly Father and be a member on His Family Tree.

PRAYERPRAYERDear Heavenly Father, At this time of Thanksgiving, we are thankful for all the many, many blessings you have given us; for your son Jesus, who came to earth to teach us how to live and to die on the cross for our sins that we may come before You, washed clean in His blood. We thank you for our families where we are cared for by our earthly parents, grandparents, and other family members, and where we can experience the love that family members give to each other. But we are especially grateful that You have called us to be a member of Your Heavenly Family. In Your family, Dear God, we can feel a love that is greater than any earthly love, and we can have an eternal life that will be free of all pain and sadness. I pray for these children that they will hear Your call to be one of Your children. Lord, we praise and adore You now and forever. Amen

LESSON 2: LOVING OTHERS LESSON 2: LOVING OTHERS AS GOD LOVES MEAS GOD LOVES ME

Scripture Review:"Teacher, which is the greatest

commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" Matthew 22:36-39 (NIV)

I don't know for sure, but I think that there have probably been more songs written about love than just about anything else in the world. Here is a list of some of my favorites: "Love Makes the World Go Round," "Love and Marriage," and "When I Fall in Love," and oh, I almost forgot one of my favorites! Barney's "I Love You" song. You know that one, don't you?

Well, I guess that shows how up to date I am! Barney was long ago replaced by SpongeBob SquarePants. In fact, SpongeBob is probably out of date by now, but I know one thing that never goes out of style, and that is lovelove. As much as ever, "What the World Needs Now Is Love."

One day a lawyer asked Jesus, "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment?" Do you remember how many commandments there are? There are ten, aren't there? Well, there were ten on the tablets of stone that God gave to Moses, but the Jews actually had 613 laws. There were 248 do's and 365 don'ts. Wow! That is a lot of do's and don'ts isn't it? Can you imagine trying to remember all of that? I don't think we need to. Listen to what Jesus said to the lawyer.

Jesus answered, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind,' this is the greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."  In other words, Jesus was saying that if we could keep these two commandments, we would not have any trouble keeping the others.You know, that reminds me of another love song, "All You Need Is Love." Let's pray and ask God to help us to love as we ought.

PRAYER• Dear Father, help

us to love you with all of our heart and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Amen.
