2004 Accountability

State and AYP

District Vision

All students who enroll in our schools will graduate from high school, fluent in

two or more languages, prepared and inspired to continue their education in

a four-year college, university, or institution of higher education so that

they become successful citizens in their community.

Background

In 1993, the Texas Legislature enacted statutes that mandated the creation of the Texas public accountability system to rate school districts and evaluate campuses.

In 2002, the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 was signed by President Bush creating accountability provisions for school districts receiving federal funding.

System History

1997: • Statewide curriculum (TEKS) was updated. • Develop new assessment tool.

2003: • New assessment (TAKS) administered. • New federal legislation (NCLB)

implemented.

Previous Year• Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) Accountability

2004: • Alignment begins however, two different ratings still apply

2005: • Full alignment expected

• Academically Acceptable – Reading/ELA - 50%– Writing – 50%– Social Studies – 50%– Math – 35%– Science – 25%

• Academically Unacceptable– Not meeting any of the above.
