conveyor monItorIng & control

meet the challenges of maintaining safety while maximising productivity on underground and overland conveyors with ampcontrol’s imac conveyor safety and remote isolation systems.

With Ex ia certification for Group 1 explosive atmosphere the system has the ability to monitor distributed I/O over distances of up to 10km on a single cable run.

Each iMAC conveyor installation is customised to the unique requirements of a site and includes features such as emergency stop, remote isolation, prestart warning, intercom and broadcast messaging functionality.

Complex conveyor systems are easily controlled using the iMAC’s remote I/O modules, so that high integrity E-stop and remote isolation may be undertaken even with multiple drive locations. The system is designed to minimise downtime and streamline work processes, even when the interlocking is complicated. Advanced self-diagnostics assist in maximising equipment availability.

Remote Isolation

Remote Isolation using Ampcontrol’s iMAC system provides a safe and efficient means to isolate power from the conveyor drive system.

By fully automating the isolation procedure the iMAC system minimises operator error, provides inbuilt checks and balances, redundancy and ‘fail to safe’ controls and reduces the time and number of trained personnel required to achieve full isolation.

System components

voicecom

Ampcontrol’s VoiceCom provides pre-start warning control, broadcast of pre-recorded messages for system status and diagnostics as well as push to talk intercoms. VoiceCom messaging improves operational workflow with users able to be made aware of system status without having to traverse the length of a conveyor to see a diagnostic display.

Pullkeys

Ampcontrol’s pullkeys allow for operators to initiate emergency stopping from anywhere on the conveyor belt via a lanyard. Remote isolation is achieved at the pullkey itself by employing a very simple work procedure, ensuring positive isolation before locking out and conducting maintenance.

imac system architecture

The key elements of the system architecture are:

• VoiceCom and iMAC controllers located at the drive head and interfaced to the conveyor PLC

• For hazardous area installations an iMAC Master Line Barrier provides IS Ex ia protection

• Trip and isolation interlocking I/O (iMAC: RO4, CRM, ARM and DI8 modules) located at each drive location for tripping and feedback confirmation

• Pullkeys distributed along the length of the conveyor

• VoiceCom amplifiers distributed as required along the length of the conveyor belt

• iMAC End of Line (EOL) Modules to terminate the safety system

• PLC Integration

PLC integration via MODBUS RTU provides extra functions including:

• Redundant safety paths for tripping and isolation (in addition to the hard-wired iMAC interlocks)

• Trip and fault reporting via a highly configurable HMI presentation of system information

• Pre-recorded message initiation

• Pre-start sequencing

imac control inputs

Due to the flexibility of the iMAC product line, integrating additional control inputs into the safety system is trivial. Belt wander, belt tear, blocked chute, hard-wired sequencing and other general purpose control signals may be included in the system design using line-powered input modules such as DI4 and AIM.

cabletrack

features

∙ Provides easy compliance with required cable history records

∙ Real time data record keeping

∙ Secure data which is backed up daily

∙ Automatic upload of all Ampcontrol managed cables

∙ View all site cables from one platform, including cable documentation and information

∙ Upload test certificates and reports

∙ Capture every cable entry change via history records

∙ Easy data management system for Ampcontrol customers

Cabletrack is a secure, online database which ensures cable assets are easy to manage and maintain. Taking the hassle out of maintaining a cable register, Cabletrack is dynamic and backed up daily to ensure your data is secure.

The system is designed to meet the needs of cable customers and aims to help manage statutory compliance. The database is mobile compatible, enabling fast data retrieval on any Cabletrack cable.

Cabletrack also records the history of every cable on site, helping you manage your cable assets more effectively.

How to connect

Cabletrack is provided as part of a fixed term maintenance agreement. Partnering with Ampcontrol ensures cable reliability and peace of mind that cable support is there when you need it.

Why prevention is better

For underground coal mines, AS/NZS 2290 is very clear on the scheduled maintenance requirements of cable assets. All readily accessible machine cables and glands must be inspected daily, with pre-overhaul audits conducted every three years and AS/NZ3800 overhauls every four years.

For other industries, including above ground mining, continuous monitoring of cable assets outside of planned maintenance periods can ensure your cables don’t undergo any ‘unscheduled’ maintenance.

What is involved?

Securing Ampcontrol’s experienced field service technicians via a fixed term agreement typically begins with an assessment of your cable assets. From this initial audit, the Cabletrack database is created, complete with attached test reports.

Ongoing use of Cabletrack, including the addition of new data is managed entirely by you. Any maintenance done by Ampcontrol is automatically updated in Cabletrack.

Peace of mind

Ampcontrol takes it’s role as a service provider to the mining industry very seriously. Over several decades we have invested significantly in the delivery of leading cable support via our workshops across NSW and QLD.

Engaging in a service agreement with Ampcontrol enables a more cost effective, proactive approach to cable management, made even easier through Cabletrack.

With your cable assets online, an experienced cable technician can fast track the repair process by understanding the previous service history. Site wide management of cables becomes easier with all cables readily locatable via a click of a button.

Maintaining the data is simple, with onsite training provided to sites where multiple users will be onboarded.

Support 24/7

We take customer support seriously, so available 24/7 means exactly that. Any time of the day or night, you can connect with someone at Ampcontrol.
