Intercultural CommunicationAn Interdisciplinary Approach: When Neurons, Genes, and Evolution Joined the Discourse
Incorporating evolutionary biology and cultural neurosciences, this book introduces readers to intercultural communication while arguing that culture is dynamic and individuals can develop a multicultural mind. This interdisciplinary approach provides new perspectives, encourages critical thinking, and challenges convention. The author balances Western narratives with diverse discourses from around the world. Her multicultural experiences combined with her journalistic writing style makes for an intellectual yet thoroughly accessible volume.
“Hopefully this book is a harbinger of a new springtime for the intercultural field.”

Understanding CultureA Handbook for Students in the Humanities
This textbook provides an innovative introduction to the study of culture from an international perspective. It examines culture as a dynamic term with meanings that change through time, offering the f irst long-term analysis of the relationship between culture and nature. It discusses various theories of culture present in the disciplines of history, literature, art, and popular culture. Due to this breadth and coherence, the book can be f lexibly and relevantly applied across many topics and could be used in a wide range of courses.
Babette Hellemans teaches cultural history and medieval history at the University of Groningen.
“This much-needed and very welcome textbook excels at the challenging task of
conveying the intricacies of theory in a crisp and accessible manner to the reader.
Abundant in illuminating examples, it is a guide to culture in the best sense of the
world: it provides a lasting inspiration for reflection (well after it has been read).”

This book is an introduction to Intercultural Communication (IC) that takes into account the much neglected dynamic paradigm of culture in the literature. It posits that culture is not static, context is the driving force for change, and individuals can develop a multicultural mind. It is also the first IC textbook in the field that incorporates insight from evolutionary biology and the newly emerging discipline of cultural neurosciences. Such an interdisciplinary approach provides readers with new angles, encourages critical thinking, and sometimes challenges conventional knowledge in the field. The combination of the author’s multi cultural academic and journalistic background contributes to a balance of diverse perspectives and world views on cultural theories and discourses. The book is ideal for courses in Intercultural Communication with study cases, discussion topics and class activities.
“Up-to-date, readable aha’s for professionals and students alike. Hopefully this
book is a harbinger of a new springtime for the intercultural field.”
Dr. George F. Simons, creator of diversophy®

An Introduction to Mathematical StatisticsThe f ield of statistics focuses on drawing conclusions from data by modelling and analysing the data using probabilistic models. The authors of this introductory text describe three key concepts from statistics—estimators, tests, and conf idence regions—which they demonstrate and apply in an extensive variety of examples and case studies. An entire chapter covers regression models, including linear regression and analysis of variance. This book, designed for students, assumes a basic knowledge of probability theory, calculus, and linear algebra.
Fetsje Bijma worked as an assistant professor of mathematics at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam for ten years. Marianne Jonker is a biostatistician at the Radboud University Medical Center in Nijmegen. Aad van der Vaart is professor of stochastics at Leiden University.

Zeolites and Metal-Organic FrameworksFrom Lab to Industry
Zeolites are natural minerals with porous chemical structures that are valuable due to their absorptive qualities. Metal-Organic Frameworks are manmade organometal-lic polymers with similar porous structures. This introductory book, with contributions from top-class researchers from all around the world, examines these materials and explains the different synthetic routes available to prepare zeolites and MOFs. The book also highlights how the substances are similar yet different and how they are used by science and
industry in situations ranging from fueling cars to producing drugs.
