Alix, what you're saying is veryproblematic and endemic of thewhite privilege that underpins a lotof the issues being discussed rightnow. No one has ever been giventheir rights by kindly asking, fromthe starting of our country (BostonTea Party) to women's rights(Suffrage protests, The Women'sMarch, #metoo), the call to end theVietnam War (Vietnam protests),gay rights (Stonewall riots, GayLiberation Movement), civil rights(sit ins, Million Man March),women's rights, gun control (TheMarch for our lives), etc. Blackpeople and allies have been talkingabout the many ways in which theircommunities are negativelyimpacted by over-policing andracist policies such as Stop andFrisk, but no one seems to belistening. If it takes peopleprotesting constantly in order to getthe message across that BlackLives Matter, then perhaps I thinkyou need to look at the society welive in and its refusal to listeninstead of getting mad at themessenger. ^ 1

Alix, I again want to try and reiteratethat you have so many privileges as awhite woman that you may not fullyappreciate how lucky you are to notneed to protest or riot to feel heard. Iwant to believe that you are willing tosit down and listen to those who areoppressed in order to understand thatyour position is flawed and franklylaughable. I myself have been arrestedmany times in protest of problematicsituations that needed to be addressedand recognize that even though theseissues did not direct impact me theyneeded to be fixed. If you are unwillingto admit you're being willfully ignorantin order to maintain a problematicstatus quo, nothing I say nor anythinganyone else says can help you. I couldsit here and post video and video ofpolice violence but instead I'm going tobelieve that you as a libraryprofessional can do this yourself. If youare unable to do so, perhaps considerstepping down from your position ofinstitutional power to allow someonewho is more enlightend than yourselfto empower others.

  • 3 Alix FreckAsh Albinson what an interestingthought I'll have to mull it over. PerhapsI should leave my Job because I don'tthink entire communities should bedestroyed and more innocent lives lost.Maybe you should instead accept thatnot everyone feels the same as you.

Instead of self pitying you shouldconsider self reflection. I have literallybeen on the frontlines of protests andseen what happens to communitieswhen they are sidelined for the statusquo in order to prevent people like youfrom feeling uncomfortable in yourterrible choices. This isn't a situationwhich there are multiple valid point ofview, it actually boils down to whetheror not you recognize the suffering ofthe black community or if you'reblinded by your own prejudice. If youcan't see that then please sit down andstop talking. You're the problem Alix.Either recognize that or admit you'reignorant of the issues.

I felt a need to fact-check this post since I thought itcould not be possible for grenade launchers to be legalfor citizens to own and carry... but apparently they

    are...

I am not against citizens owning guns, but I am very

much for restricting how destructive those guns shouldbe. In what scenario does a citizen need one of these?

0 Alix FreckOh pick me! For when the government tells you you haveto shut down your business takes away your livelihood

and then you try for unemployment but can't get itthere's just not enough and a poor system to start then

they take away your right to purchase arms at all (WestPalm Beach FL, current) then they instill curfew and

martial law and control your ability to go out and getfood etc. We're half way there now. That's when you need

the ability to fight back against corruption.

Fascinating - 40 percent of people have recently purchased a gun forthe first time and 40 percent are women Which leads me to believewomen feel like they need protection . And yet a mayor decides tosuspend the ability of people to buy said protection? So many thingsshould never happen-such as the second amendment being taken

    away.
