So Why The Holocaust?
1. Legislation
2. The Holocaust is one of very few non-skill based topics that appear in the standards for grades 6, 7, and 8.
3. So how does this topic relate to today's students? Please watch the following clip from Freedom Writers.o Go to
http://7465-group2-a5.wikispaces.com/Videos and please watch video #1.
The purpose of this lesson is for students to get an understanding of what it would have been like to be
shuttled around like livestock as many were during the Holocaust while utilizing mathematical devices. The
students will create original line graphs, bar graphs, pie charts, piktographs, and infographics from statistical
data provided in the virtual trunk.

What Would it Be Like? The purpose of this lesson is for students to explore
concepts of the Holocaust and how this relates to bullying through language arts activities. The students will create
original poetry and prose that reflect comprehension of the Holocaust and bullying and how negative effects from bullying can have a ripple effect on subsequent generations as well.

Assignment Two
Assignment ThreePrejudice and Discrimination in History
The purpose:
• to identify how the events of the Holocaust affected the lives of real people who lived in Europe during the period of 1933 through 1945 and after.
• to relate the experiences of the Holocaust to political and social trends today and throughout history.

ELACC6-8RH7, SS8H9, ELACC6-8RH8, ELACC6-8WHST6, SS6H7
Assignment ThreeAfter reading the script Upstanders, researching the Holocaust, and
discussing prejudice and discrimination students will showcase their learning by creating an infographic illustrating four examples of people acting as Upstanders throughout history.
This will be one of our discussions. What would you say? (please answer in the chat box)
a. If prejudice were an animal, it would be a ___ because____.
b. If prejudice were a shape it would be a ___ because____.
c. If prejudice were a number is would be ____ because_____.
Summative activity: After sharing infographics, students will discuss why prejudice and inequality are ever present. Are if
there any solutions?
Assignment FourScience and the Holocaust/ Back to the Future Project
Purpose:• Students need to be able to relate the experiences of
the Holocaust to political and social trends in today’s society.
• To connect science to the Holocaust through genetics, diseases/germs, experimentation, and inventions.
Georgia Performance Standards:ELACC6-8RH7, ELACC6-8RH8, ELACC6-8WHST6,
SS6H7, S7CS1, S7CS7, S7CS8, S7CS9, S7CS10, S7L1, S7L3
Assignment Four
Students will work in small groups using a “Think/Pair/Share” to brainstorm answers and create a group list of ways that science connects to the Holocaust.
Project: since the Holocaust, there have been many advances in science. How could those advances have affected the lives of people living during that time period? (please type in the chat box your ideas of inventions that could help these victims!!!)
Students will use ToonDoo to create a comic...

Holocaust Remembrance Week
Take a moment to remember.......
Congress established the Days of Remembrance as the nation’s annual commemoration of the Holocaust and
created the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum as a permanent living memorial to the victims. Holocaust
remembrance week is April 7–14, 2013. The theme designated by the Museum for the 2013 observance is
Never Again: Heeding the Warning Signs.

How to truly rely on others
What we enjoyed
Learning more about our topic
Having the opportunity to focus on a need for students today (bullying awareness)
Challenges:Time constraints
Amount of work involved
Amy's ReflectionI learned......
what a traveling trunk was and how it could easily be implemented in the classroom.
I liked.......
working as a group to complete an assignment and working on google docs at the same time.
I did not like......
writing a narrative for it seemed every single aspect of the assignment.
Ramey's Reflection
I learned...• New technology for collaboration • Resources to add to my S.S. classroom
I liked...• Working with and learning from my group• Learning more about our topics
I did not like...• High stress levels created by having to work
on multiple assignments and exercises simultaneously
Crystal's ReflectionI learned...
how to juggle a busy schedule and work as I go (milestones)
