An accredited Messianic school, children
studying both Torah and NT, learning &
praying in Hebrew, a Community of
Believers.
Dear Friends of Makor HaTikvah,
W hen Caesar Hadrian set out to purify
Jerusalem from Jews, he did not realize
that the connection between the Holy
City and the Jewish people would never be severed.
When the Nazis tried to obliterate every trace of the
people of Israel on earth - they did not believe that
within a few years the State of Israel would arise,
and, after two thousand years, Jerusalem would be
declared the capital of our people.
Lovers of God have prayed for
centuries to see this wonder. And
now in the center of Jerusalem, there
is a Messianic school. Every
morning more than a hundred
children and dozens of faithful staff
call out to the Lord Jesus Christ!
How wonderful this gospel is. The
nation of Israel lives and, within it,
the community of believers in Jesus.
Today, we have the right to exist;
and you can be supporters of the
only Messianic school in Israel. We
are speaking and praying in the
Hebrew language and being a light
to the whole country.
In the educational systems of the
world, especially in Europe and
Israel, students are exposed to content that is
contrary to
biblical truths.
For example,
from
kindergarten,
they are
already taught
that they can
choose their
gender and
that family is
not
composed
of only man
and woman
but two men or two
women. At Makor HaTikvah, the
children are educated in the values of the Bible.
They are taught from the beginning - "male and
female He created them” and this is
God’s plan to continue life on earth.
Today in the Israeli education
system, there is a tendency to
increase rabbinical Jewish studies
and traditions in the schools.
Millions of shekels are invested for
this. Tradition has no evil until the
moment it contradicts the Torah and
the New Testament. Unfortunately,
a lot of rabbinical Judaism
contradicts the gospel of Jesus. In
our lessons, the students and
teachers are able to talk about these
things and learn to distinguish
between the beautiful Jewish
culture, which is based on the Torah
and Jesus’ teachings; from the poor
rabbinical interpretation that
“Many peoples shall
come, and say: ‘Come,
let us go up to the
mountain of the LORD,
to the house of the God
of Jacob, that he may
teach us his ways and
that we may walk in
his paths.’ For out of
Zion shall go forth the
law, and the word of
the LORD from
Jerusalem.”

Our students were invited to
sing with a professional
ensemble at the YMCA in
Jerusalem.
M akor HaTikvah had the
privilege of participating in
a performance called ‘Worthy is the
Lamb’ on the last week of October.
Our students were invited to sing
with a professional ensemble at the
YMCA in Jerusalem. They sang
beautifully a song based on Psalm
8:9, declaring ‘Lord, our Lord, how
majestic is your name in all the earth.’
Randy Shepherd from Crossfire
Ministry visited our school during the
second week of November. He
challenged us to seek Jesus faithfully.
And shared his dramatic testimony
with our students. He also taught us
some basketball techniques.
A Christian high school in Detmold,
Germany, sent 15 students to visit our
school for 10 days in November. This
dream of both sides hosting the other
students was birthed at a conference in
Europe that Yoel attended. The exchange program
was realized this month! At Makor HaTikvah,
German students have been learning Hebrew,
traveling around Israel, visiting places that they
read about in the bible while staying with our
Makor HaTikvah families. In February, 10 or more
students from Makor will visit the school in
Detmold to explore the
culture there and build
relationships with their
friends.
Two college students,
Annerieke and Hannah, from
Driestar Hogeschool in
Netherlands visited our school
this month on their internship
program. They audited the
classes to compare
pedagogical methods in our
school with the ones in
Netherlands.
Keep in mind that Makor
HaTikvah is also running a Facebook page to
keep our friends and supporters posted about
school events and photos.
distances the people of Israel from Christ.
Friends, we have wonderful news for you in this
newsletter. God is faithful to the project called
“Makor HaTikvah.” I appeal to you now and urge
you to continue to support our school regularly
each month. The school is growing and so are the
necessary expenses. We now, more than ever, need
your constant prayers and support to continue our
existence. This is the only place in Israel, where the
children of the Messianic communities from the
Dead Sea to Tel Aviv can study the values of faith.
Thank you so much for this wonderful partnership.
With blessings of Christ,
Yoel Russu

Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to
grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. --1 Thessalonians 4:13
W e are entering the holiday seasons of Light & Hope. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah,
or both, for those of us who have lost loved ones, the holiday season can be difficult. I lost my mother
very recently; peacefully in her sleep. My mother had a firm faith; and her hope was that one day she
would see her savior face to face. I believe that day she saw him. I am still processing the fact that she is
not here. But the comforting hope and knowledge that she will forever dwell with Him is so powerful.
Christmas celebrates the “birth” of the King. There is a far greater celebration coming when this Son of
God returns as King of Kings. I am so looking forward to that day.
My mother’s favorite song was, “The King is Coming.” It is a wonderful old hymn. The
chorus lyrics are, “O the King is coming; the King is coming. I just heard the trumpets
sounding; and now His face I see. O the King is coming; the King is coming. Praise God,
He's coming for me.” This is our hope.
Cyndi Chetrit is a contributing editor for Makor HaTikvah.
This is Anastasia’s first year as Makor
HaTikvah’s special education teacher.
“I chose to study special education because I
believe that every person and every child is
special: every child has his or her needs, his or her
ways of better learning, areas that are more inter-
esting for him/her, where he/she could feel strong-
er. The knowledge I have gained in special educa-
tion helps me to adapt the curriculum to each
child’s personal needs and also to strengthen the
children in other areas (emotionally, socially, in
terms of motivation, etc.). In addition, I really
like to build the personal connection with chil-
dren. I love to see them grow, develop and
bloom in front of my eyes. I like to see their
smiles and success in something that seemed
to be impossible, and it is also what gives me
motivation at work.
Reflecting God's love and grace to my stu-
dents is the most important goal for me.
Makor HaTikvah is different from most
schools. Jesus is the rock on which we lean. The
school exists through Him and for His Glory. Also,
there is a unity and love between the staff and the
students. This Messianic school is a tremendous
blessing and I am proud to serve our God here.

Dear Friends of Makor HaTikvah
and Fellow Believers,
I wrote to you in the last
newsletter announcing the
official launching of FRIENDS of
Makor HaTikvah organization.
We are a US-based support
organization to Makor
HaTikvah school in Jerusalem,
and exist for that purpose, and
that purpose only. We are purely
volunteer based not-for-profit organization.
In this newsletter, I would like to tell you very
briefly about my recent visit to the school in
Jerusalem. Shortly after the publication of the
September newsletter, I traveled to
Israel with my wife, grown son and
daughter in Law, to spend the Fall
holydays with family there. Unlike
my first visit to the school, this time
school was in session. And, boy it was!
It was bustling with kids running
around during recess and filling the
classrooms to the brim during class
session. Every nook and cranny of this
ancient Anglican structure is utilized to
the max, it seems. Every classroom
filled, with many spaces serving
multiple purposes. In Ms. Renatyah’s
class we counted 9 different languages
that the students spoke! Students are
pulled out for Ulpan (Hebrew) sessions,
just so they can come back to their
organic class able to better keep up with their
Hebrew speaking peers.
It truly was a privilege to walk from class to class
and meet the students and the teachers. I was
moved by the enthusiasm in the face of challenge. I
saw unity, passion, and a sense of mission when
visiting with some of the teachers. I saw solid
hardworking believers and met new friends.
Friends around the world, I am here to tell
you that this is a great cause,
and a wonderful opportunity to
come alongside of a meaningful
project in the heart or Jerusalem
and of the Jewish people.
Makor HaTikvah is a unifying
element for the Messianic
community in Israel, who, as a
whole, is facing many challenges
daily. I saw firsthand just how
much the school needs your
ongoing support.
Please continue to pray for the Peace of Jerusalem,
for the Messianic community throughout Israel and
the world, and of course, for Makor
HaTikvah school.
As FRIENDS of Makor HaTikvah, we
want to facilitate financial support
to the school, among other work we do
for the school. The school has many
supporters around the world, and they
are all invited to use our new, simple
and straightforward, website
www.friendsofmakor.org. US citizens
can claim tax exemption for donations
made through us. We charge no fees,
consolidate, and send all donations to
the school. You can certainly send
funds directly to Jerusalem as well. In
addition, if you prefer to continue
making donations through CMJ, who
has been a key partner to Makor
HaTikvah for many years, you certainly can continue
and do so.
