Spectra Logic’s Media Lifecycle Management (MLM) provides the unparalleled ability to reduce media related issues through its intuitive reporti ng of at-risk media that should be retired. For truly complete media health reporting, MLM non-intrusively tracks over 30 criteria about each tape throughout it’s usable life. MLM’s comprehensive reporting is essential for a long term data archive, maximizing tape refresh cycles and mitigating the risk of data loss.

Spectra Certified Media extends the life of tape media, drives and cleaning tapes by pre-cleaning media before it arrives at your doorstep. An industry first, Spectra CarbideClean™ is offered on all Spectra Certified Media as an additional reliability value at no additional charge. Spectra Certified Media also improves your storage operations and reduces the most common causes of failed backups with Media Lifecycle Management (MLM). Spectra Certified Media featuring MLM support is the only media available that allows you to proactively manage your tape media by monitoring and tracking the health status of your media.

Energy costs and environmental responsibility are also key considerations for many data centers. The Spectra T-Series libraries use dramatically less power than equivalent disk storage and its BlueScale® EnergyAudit software monitors exactly how much electricity is being consumed. QStar’s Enterprise Archiving and Data ManagementQStar Archive Manager software can be installed on customer’s choice of server using Windows, Linux, UNIX or Mac.

The software virtualizes the LTO tape library behind a file system which can be shared out using CIFS or NFS. As the archive is presented as a standard file system, users and applications can easily write, search, find, and recall data directly from the archive, without the need for administrator intervention or an API.

QStar archive software and Spectra Logic T-Series libraries scale easily to support virtually any level of data growth, supporting a few terabytes to multiple petabytes. Archive capacity can be added on-demand, avoiding costly and disruptive system acquisition.

Our flexible solution can be used in all industry environments and supports many types of data archival applications including email, PACS, documents, database, video or audio.

For cost-effective archive disaster protection, QStar can automatically create additional media copies to be stored off-site. Optionally, QStar can provide real-time replication and mirroring of data between two or more archive stores, locally or globally.

To reduce the need for expensive primary storage and to reduce backup, QStar Network Migrator (QNM) software can be used to stub and migrate, move, or copy static files from primary storage to more cost-effective Spectra Logic tape media for long term secure storage.

Based on policies, QNM creates a tiered storage environment and manages the location, retention and replication of data throughout its lifecycle. Regardless of the physical location of the files, users can continue to access them from their original location.
