The implications of this coming state election for the Muslim community The recent rise of Pauline Hanson’s One Naon has once again put the Muslim community in the firing line of more hate propaganda. This is the tacc she uses to insll fear and tension amongst the Australian people. Aſter creang fear, hatred and suspicion she then preys on the ignorance of the Australian public by falsely alleging that Muslims are trying to implement Sharia law in Australia. She also has policies that include a ban of the burqa and a total ban of Muslim migraon to Australia cing her reasons that if we do not act against Islam there will be “terrorism on the streets” and “Australians murdered.” She also wants a royal commission into whether Islam is even a religion or not. We expect no less from the likes of Pauline Hanson and her One Naon party but the disturbing issue is that the WA Liberals i.e. Colin Barne and his Liberal Party have joined forces with Pauline Hanson’s One Naon in a preference deal thus appearing to endorse the polics of racism, division and fear. What this means is that if you vote Liberal you will effecvely be vong One Naon into parliament. What can we do to prevent this? Answer: By engaging in the polical process by vong for a party that will serve in our best interests. Looking at the polical pares we have in front of us it seems the Greens have been the ones who value cultural diversity, respect and tolerance and have shown commitment to defend the rights of all people regardless of race, ethnicity and religion. An example of this was demonstrated when Pauline Hanson standing in the Senate delivered her speech in parliament last year saying that “we are in danger of being swamped by Muslims” which prompted members of the Greens to stand up and walk out during Hanson’s rhetorical rade against Islam and Muslims. At a me when the world seems to be on a collision course and racism has now become mainstream we need to quell the hatred and steer our community away from any impending danger. It should be known that Hanson’s track record of picking on minories like Indigenous Australians and Asians as she did 20 years ago unleashed a great deal of ugliness and division that is sll fresh in the minds of many people that were affected at the me. The ideal result for Muslims in this state elecon is a Labor victory with as many Greens representaves as possible in Parliament to counter the presence of Pauline Hanson’s One Naon party. Labor has done a preference deal with the Greens which means if you vote Greens then their preference votes will go to Labor. The reason why we should put Greens in front of Labor is to keep the Labor Party honest and let them take note that we were aware of Labour’s discussion with One Naon and their flirng with the idea of doing a preference deal with them. We can no longer afford to be spectators to the hate propaganda and racism that is being orchestrated by Pauline Hanson and her party. We can no longer remain silent upon this injusce as injusce commied anywhere is a threat to jusce everywhere. This lack of concern will impact on our freedom to pracse our religion and affect our children and grandchildren for generaons to come. We have the numbers in our community to be the game changer in this coming elecon. It is now me to stand up and take a stance. Through our unity and with the support of other virtuous, good minded Australians we can make a difference and make Australia a harmonious and united society. Our message to the Muslim community is – your vote is important and can make a big difference. Authorised by Jamiat-ul-Ulama Al- Islam WA, 21 Warrida Way, Maddington WA 6109. AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY ON BEHALF OF THE FOLLOWING IMAMS OF PERTH: • Sheikh Hisham Obeid, Rivervale Mosque. • Sheikh Faizal Ghafoor, President Muslim Theological Council WA. • Sheikh Yusuf Parker, Al-Hidayah Center Wangarra. • Imam Mirsel Kozica, Swan Valley Mosque. • Sheikh Shabir Moosa, Southern River Mosque. • Sheikh Safdar Parker, Thornlie Mosque. • Sheikh Mohammed Shakeeb, Perth City Mosque.

The implications of this coming state election for the Muslim community

The recent rise of Pauline Hanson’s One Nation has once again put the Muslim community in the firing line of more hate propaganda. This is the tactic she uses to instill fear and tension amongst the Australian people. After creating fear, hatred and suspicion she then preys on the ignorance of the Australian public by falsely alleging that Muslims are trying to implement Sharia law in Australia. She also has policies that include a ban of the burqa and a total ban of Muslim migration to Australia citing her reasons that if we do not act against Islam there will be “terrorism on the streets” and “Australians murdered.” She also wants a royal commission into whether Islam is even a religion or not.

We expect no less from the likes of Pauline Hanson and her One Nation party but the disturbing issue is that the WA Liberals i.e. Colin Barnett and his Liberal Party have joined forces with Pauline Hanson’s One Nation in a preference deal thus appearing to endorse the politics of racism, division and fear. What this means is that if you vote Liberal you will effectively be voting One Nation into parliament.

What can we do to prevent this?

Answer: By engaging in the political process by voting for a party that will serve in our best interests.

Looking at the political parties we have in front of us it seems the Greens have been the ones who value cultural diversity, respect and tolerance and have shown commitment to defend the rights of all people regardless of race, ethnicity and religion. An example of this was demonstrated when Pauline Hanson standing in the Senate delivered her speech in parliament last year saying that “we are in danger of being swamped by Muslims” which prompted members of the Greens to stand up and walk out during Hanson’s rhetorical tirade against Islam and Muslims.

At a time when the world seems to be on a collision course and racism has now become mainstream we need to quell the hatred and steer our community away from any impending danger. It should be known that Hanson’s track record of picking on minorities like Indigenous Australians and Asians as she did 20 years ago unleashed a great deal of ugliness and division that is still fresh in the minds of many people that were affected at the time.

The ideal result for Muslims in this state election is a Labor victory with as many Greens representatives as possible in Parliament to counter the presence of Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party. Labor has done a preference deal with the Greens which means if you vote Greens then their preference votes will go to Labor. The reason why we should put Greens in front of Labor is to keep the Labor Party honest and let them take note that we were aware of Labour’s discussion with One Nation and their flirting with the idea of doing a preference deal with them.

We can no longer afford to be spectators to the hate propaganda and racism that is being orchestrated by Pauline Hanson and her party. We can no longer remain silent upon this injustice as injustice committed anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. This lack of concern will impact on our freedom to practise our religion and affect our children and grandchildren for generations to come. We have the numbers in our community to be the game changer in this coming election. It is now time to stand up and take a stance. Through our unity and with the support of other virtuous, good minded Australians we can make a difference and make Australia a harmonious and united society.

Our message to the Muslim community is – your vote is important and can make a big difference.
