FRIENDLY SCHOOL. What does this mean? It
means that we will respect the individual needs of
students who have identified allergies (with care
plans) to such products as nuts, milk and eggs to
name a few. In particular, food products that have nuts or are made
from nuts should NOT come to school - ie: peanut paste, Nutella and
nut bars. Our canteen is “nut free” to accommodate individual
students with special needs.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
Dear Parents, Carers and School Community
THANK YOU!
As we approach the end of Term 2, I would
like to thank everyone for the way they have
adapted to the changes we had to make to
keep our school community safe. Thanks to
the parents for limiting the time they are on the
school grounds and I encourage them to
continue to do so. We have seen our students
gain a greater level of independence,
especially the younger ones, which has been
fantastic.
I would also like to thank our whole staff, our
teachers, assistants, office staff, cleaners and
gardener for their commitment to our students
over this last semester during some difficult
and uncertain times.
CHANGES
In the first couple of weeks of Term 3, reports
will be emailed home, new toilets will be
completed and photo packages will arrive.
Post COVID-19, many things will be back to
normal with sporting events and incursions etc
now possible. We must still keep our rigorous
hygiene practices in place.
Next term we will have the back gate open
again, however it will be locked, as for all
gates, at 9am.
Finally, I would like to send our best wishes to
our Principal, Steve Richards as he takes
some family carer’s leave.
I hope you all have a relaxing and safe break and look forward to welcoming our students back on Tuesday July 21.
Regards, Ann-Maree Melvin, Deputy Principal
2020 TERM DATES FOR STUDENTS
Term 2 Wednesday 29 Apr - Friday 3 July
Term 3 Tuesday 21 July - Friday 25 Sep
Term 4 Tuesday 13 Oct - Thursday 17 Dec
Dear Parents/Carers
As we reflect upon Term 2, we can definitely say it has been a term of change. We ended last term thinking at
home learning was going to take place for the start of term and spent considerable time creating packages for
families to implement at home only. However, as with everything linked to COVID-19, overnight this all changed
and at the end of week two of the April holidays it was announced schools would be open for all students for face
to face learning alongside home learning for those who chose. Three weeks in to term, attendance to school for
students was compulsory once again but lots of restrictions still remained in place. Parents were not permitted on
site, students used the back oval gate and staggered start and finishes were in place with students entering the
school via the oval gate. Some changes we needed to make have turned out to be great while we are looking
forward to reinstating some things we needed to stop as guidelines and restrictions change. Amongst all of this,
teachers ensure classroom programs continued and the students worked on achieving their goals. Adjustments
were made and increased hygiene regimes were in place. I would like to acknowledge and commend all our teach-
ers and Education Assistants who throughout the term continued to make adjustments necessary and continually
go above and beyond to ensure maximum learning continued to happen in the class. We were able to report on
most areas due to the staff keeping the program as consistent as possible. All the staff are superstars and we are
so lucky here at Wirrabirra ESC to have such a dedicated and caring staff who make our workplace the best place
to be. Your children are very lucky indeed!
Yesterday your child’s semester one report was sent home. We hope you enjoyed reading about the progress your
child has made. Please feel free to chat with your child’s teacher in regard to anything at all in the report. IEP
meetings will be happening at the beginning of next term. This is a great time to discuss your child’s learning
program and discuss the goals set for your child at length.
Starting next term, therapists will be allowed to resume therapy on the school site in school hours. Many have
already been contacted and are negotiating times with classroom teachers. Please remember, the time a therapist
comes for your child must be negotiated with the classroom teacher. The school has the right to refuse therapy if
the time does not fit in with the classroom timetable. The goals a therapist is working on must have direct links to
your child’s IEP. If you have any questions or queries in regard to this, please feel free to contact the school to
discuss.
Don’t forget, tomorrow (Fri 3rd July) is free dress day, please remember your gold coin donation. Our sausage
sizzle is also happening and snacks such as chips, lollies and chocolate will be for sale at recess and lunch time.
Lastly we wish all our families a safe and happy holiday. I know staff are well and truly looking forward to a well-
earned break.
Students return for Term 3 on Tuesday 21st July.
Kind regards

Treasurer needed urgently
Following our AGM on 15 June 2020, we still have a vacancy for a Treasurer. We can’t operate
without this executive position which means no canteen or uniform shop. It also means no
events or fundraisers.
Please consider joining the P&C to help your child’s school. We have over 400 students at the
school and only 8 parents on the P&C. We know there are more people who can help us!
The Treasurer helps us to keep track of our payments and fundraising income. Ideally you
would have some book keeping experience however this role is a great way to get more
practical experience and add skills to your resume. It will take up about two hours a week of
your time (at home at your own pace), plus you will need to attend two meetings per term on a
Monday night. We can help you learn the role and would love to have you as part of the team.
Did you know volunteer hours can also count towards your Child Care Subsidy?
Please contact us on [email protected] if you would like to learn more or nominate
for the position.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Remember, we do this for our KIDS.
