Meet the Instructor
Nancy Turner
“I can’t transport my
students into my
grandmother’s
kitchen, but I can give
them an idea of what
life was like before
fast food and instant
Ramen noodles. I can
recreate a mood and
paint a picture that
they can taste of
America.”
A consummate hostess, her food and holiday entertaining articles first appeared in local publications in 1985. She is the author of a cookbook; Mama’s Table and is currently writing a second book, Home is Closer than You Think, which is geared specifically for the international student.
She is a graduate of Wofford College with degrees in English and Sociology.
Nancy has been a friend of the University of Delaware English Language Institute since 1992, when she began opening her home, Turner’s Corner, to its students.

The Kitchen is the Heart of the Home…
Each recipe has a story. To collect
them and understand them is to
paint a picture of America that you
can taste.
In the Kitchen Class, we learn
about delicious recipes that were
born in times of destitution and
need, as well as during times of
abundance.
While we cook everything from
“scratch,” we also learn to “cook
smart” so that there is still room for
good food in our busy lifestyles.
