Delhi Technicians’ Chapter

The Election of Delhi Technicians’ Chapter was held onAugust 22, 2014, wherein Ms Mohini Shrivastav and Mr Kartik,were elected as Chairman and Honorary Secretary,respectively.

Durgapur Technicians’ Chapter

During the period April 2014 – September 2014, the DurgapurTechnicians’ Chapter organized six committee meetings,three lectures, namely, (i) 69.18 MLD Water SupplyScheme of Asansol Durgapur Development Authority(ADDA), (ii) Industrial Safety, and (iii) Thermal Power PlantBasic delivered by Mr S Mondal, Assistant Engineer, ADDA,Durgapur; Mr Susanta Banerjee, EHS Officer, Alstom India andMr Parimal Kumar Dubey, Training Advisor, MTPS, DamodarValley Corporation, Durgapur, respectively. The Chapter alsoconducted fourteen short-term courses, three technical visitsto (i) ADDA, (ii) Mejia Thermal Power Station Durlavpur,Bankura, and (iii) Alstom India and also one film show.

Choudhary and Ms Manprit Gupta were elected as Chairmanand Honorary Secretary of the Chapter, respectively. A largenumber of Technicians’ attended this event which evokedkeen interest amongst them.

Kanpur Technicians’ Chapter

The Annual General Meeting of Kanpur Technicians’ Chapterwas held on August 03, 2014, wherein Mr Mahendra Jhaand Ms Sonam Tiwari were elected as Chairman andHonorary Secretary of the Chapter, respectively. During theafore-mentioned period, the Chapter also conducted threecommittee meetings and six lectures, namely, (i) Broadbandfor Sustainable Development, (ii) Small Islands – Big Trojble’(iii) Power Generation Technologies and Power Scenario inIndia, (iv) Auto CAD, (v) Satellite Communication’ and (vi) StressManagement, delivered by Prof Y N Singh, IIT, Kanpur; DrAntara Digar, Assistant Professor, Department of CivilEngineering, IIT Kanpur; Er Vivek Asthana, Executive, EnPanki Power House, Kanpur; Ms Sonam Tiwari, CADSpecialist, CAD Concepts Sarvodaya Nagar, Kanpur; ErPankaj Singh, Lecturer, HBTI, Kanpur; Mr RanjanKulshreshtha, Meditation Centre, Kanpur, respectively. Atechnical visit to RSPL Limited, Printing and Packaging Unit,Rania, Kanpur was also organised.

During the period April 2014 – September 2014, the KotaTechnicians’ Chapter organised the Annual General Meetingon September 27, 2014, wherein, Mr Dinesh Kumar Baruaand Ms Shilpa Dammani, were elected as Chairman andHonorary Secretary, respectively. During the period April 2014 – September 2014, theMaharashtra Technicians’ Chapter conducted the AnnualGeneral Meeting on August 24, 2014 and four committee

meetings, one lecture on ‘Important Applications of Semi-conducting Materials’ delivered Prof V R Altekar, twoworkshops, namely, (i) C, C++ and (ii) Online Examination.A large number of participants were present on the occasionand lectures were well received by the participants presenton the occasion. The Chapter also organised one film showon ‘Causes of Electric Short Circuits’.

Nashik Technicians’ Chapter

During the period April 2014 – September 2014, NashikTechnicians’ Chapter conducted the Annual General Meetingon September 22, 2014, wherein Mr Shah Ankit Ashok andMs Deepa Yashjeet Sangave, were elected as Chairmanand Honorary Secretary, respectively.

The Council at its 683rd meeting, held during 20-21 Sep 2014 at Agartala, decided the following :

♦ Hard copies of admit cards for registered candidates to appear in the Section A & Section BExaminations of IEI will not be printed with effect from Winter 2014 examination. Therefore, the facilityto collect the hard copy of admit card from the respective Examination Centre is dispensed with.

♦ Candidates, registered to appear in the afore-said examination, are expected to downloadtheir admit cards from IEI HQs website (www.ieindia.org) under the tab Academics by enteringhis / her correct membership number.

♦ SMS will be sent by the HQs of IEI in this respect to all registered candidates, whose mobilenumbers are available on record, at least 10 days before the commencement of examination.

♦ In case of any difficulty, concerned State/Local Centre shall extend the facility to providedownloadable admit cards to registered candidates, on request, only one day prior to the

commencement of examination. It may be noted that concerned State/Local Centre maynot consider such request, if this facility is requested during the period of examination.

Report on Twenty-second IEI Convocation and Technicians’/Students’ Convention

Organized by the Visakhapatnam Local Centre of IEI, theTwenty-second IEI Convocation and Technicians’/Students’Convention was held during November 15 – 16, 2014. Thecentral theme of the seminar, which was held concurrentlywith the apex function of Technicians’ / Senior Technicians’ /Students’ Convention was Harnessing the Power ofEmerging Technologies for Nation Building. The themewas apt and perfect by matching the present needs of thecountry. Altogether, 2102 candidates (922 candidates ofSummer 2013 and 1180 candidates of Winter 2013), whopassed Sections A & B examinations in ten engineeringdisciplines during 2013 and four (02 candidates of Summer2013 and 02 candidates of Winter 2013) candidates ofPostgraduate Diploma Examination in the same year, weregiven the certificates in person as well as in absentia. Alarge number of student members of engineering collegesand polytechnics students’ chapters attended this mega event.

The Convocation was started with a ritual invocation followedby the welcome address delivered by Dr K Venkatasubbaiah,Chairman of the Organising Committee.

The Convocation was held at Dr Y V S Murthy Auditorium ofAndhra University, Visakhapatnam. Addressing the gathering,Shri Ghanta Srinivasa Rao felt that engineers play a crucialrole in the development of any nation. He congratulated allthe young engineers who would receive their AMIE degreecertificates. He further said that very often the new graduatesdo not possess the required skills to suit the needs of theindustry or academia. He opined that there exists a gapbetween the requirements of the industry and the candidatesin terms of these skills. He announced that the newGovernment in Andhra Pradesh has decided to establishwhat are called ‘Skill Development Centers’ in every districtto bridge this gap. He further announced that such centersare going to come immediately in Visakhapatnam, Gunturand Tirupati in the first phase. Visakhapatnam, as it is calledthe ‘City of Destiny’ is attracting huge investments in thearea of Information Technology and Pharmaceuticals. Heelaborated the role of IEI in imparting engineering educationand complimented IEI for such a task for nation building. Hementioned that IEI has been existing in our country fordecades and is known for its quality in several branches ofengineering.

He then made a clarion call addressed to all present thereto be not only good engineers, but also be good citizens,who would make our motherland proud, by virtue of theirdedicated service with utmost sincerity and honesty.

The Chief Guest then presented the Institution Trophies tothe Jamshedpur Technicians’ Chapter and DurgapurTechnicians’ Chapter (in absentia), and Odisha Technicians’Chapter as the Best, Second Best and Third BestTechnicians’ Chapter, respectively amongst all the existingTechnicians’ Chapters of IEI for the session 2013-14. TheChief Guest also presented Dr Amitabha BhattacharyyaMemorial Trophies to Department of Electrical Engineeringand Department of Computer Science and Engineering, bothrepresenting Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi(Tamilnadu); and Department of Electronics Engineering,AISSMS College of Engineering, Pune (Maharashtra) as theBest, Second Best and Third Best Engineering CollegeStudents’ Chapter. Inaddition, the Chief Guest presented the awards and prizesto candidates, who secured highest/second highest/thirdhighest marks in both Section A and Section B examinationsin different engineering disciplines. The Chief Guest alsopresented the 45th All India Students’ Design CompetitionAwards-2014 for promoting the advancement of engineeringeducation and research in the country. Finally, four prizes,which were adjudged by the panel of Judges on theprevious day for presenting their papers in theTechnicians’/ Students’ Convention, were also given by thePresident-elect on 16 Nov 2014.

However, technology is also being used todevelop weapons of mass destruction. The concept of ‘globaleconomy’ is a result of the use of technology that helpedsocieties to develop more advanced economies. This hasallowed the rise of the so-called ‘leisure class’ in suchsocieties. The new technologies are also producing unwantedspillovers in the form of pollutants and depleting naturalresources to the detriment of the Earth’s atmospheric,oceanic and space environments. Various implementationsof technology are raising new ethical questions. The notionof efficiency in terms of human productivity, a term appliedto machines, is one glaring example. The ever increasingdemands of the society need the development of newtechnologies. Fortunately, new technology is coming fasterthan ever and promises solutions to many of the world’simmediate challenges that include food and water security,energy sustainability and person-based medicines. In therecent past, lighter, cheaper and flexible electronics madefrom organic materials are finding practical applications; 3Dprinting is being used for medical applications; and medicinesthat use nanotechnology and can be delivered at themolecular level are being developed. Such emergingtechnologies must be encouraged to help in making thecountry economically strong.

At present, it imparts engineering education through self-study in ten engineering disciplines. There are a large numberof students who are unable to pursue full time course due totheir employment but are enterprising enough to achievetheir career objectives through self-study and appear in theexaminations. The Institution has been providing the uniqueopportunity to them for learning and qualifying the courses’.Dr Reddy made an appeal to all engineers present on theoccasion to put their best for the advancement of engineeringprofession in the country. He underscored the need to developand practice the energy-efficient technologies in the

He strongly felt that a cohesiveworkforce with good communication skills may open newvistas of well-qualified professional engineers in the countrywho could develop the manufacturing sectors in diverse fieldsof engineering and thereby strengthen an era of aspiration ofbudding engineers to develop India a global hub for practisingprofessionals. He appealed to all the passed out engineersof The Institution of Engineers (India) to dedicate theirservices with utmost clear in their mind with zero tolerancein ethical standards to profession in future days. He told thefresh engineers about the importance of communication skillsin their profession. Their role in engineering profession is veryimportant when it comes to deliberate new concepts anddesigns. He said that engineers must contribute significantlyfor the peace and good order of the society, wherever they live.

He opined that proper technical education could usherin a self-reliant India which has the largest pool ofprofessionals. He also said that India is a source of energyfrom time immemorial. We, as a nation, missed thedevelopmental activity during the medieval period. Hereminded once again that we should not miss this opportunityof participating in the development of Nano, Information andBiotechnologies. He further said that 70% of Indianpopulation is in the age group of 18-35 years, which is whythe world is calling us as ‘young’ India. The recent Indianspace missions, such as, Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan

are the fruits of the research made by young and experiencedengineers and scientists. He observed that India has thecapacity of making such missions successful. He felt thatour engineers must work on the production of electricitythrough solar and wind energy conversion. Finally, ProfAvadhani hoped that the seminar would deliberate on majorconcern issues length and breath and some meaningfulrecomendations would surely come out.

Besides the Convocation, another colourful programme wasorganised, namely, All-India Technicians’/Students’ Seminaron Harnessing the Power of Emerging Technologiesfor Nation Building on 15 Nov 2014, concurrently with theTechnical Sessions during which student members ofengineering colleges and polytechnics, attached to Students’Chapters of IEI presented technical papers, which evokedkeen interest amongst the Technicians/Senior Technicians/Students of engineering colleges and polytechnics besidesother senior engineers and guests present on the occasion.

This session was inaugurated by Prof E A Narayana, Rectorof Andhra University. In his address, Prof Narayanamentioned that technology must help our country to improvethe economy. Till recently, there is a misnomer in the publicthat technology is not for the poor. He opined that engineers

information technology, architecture, environment,automobile, water resources, renewable energy, etc. Dividedin two distinct categories, namely, (i) students representingEngineering Colleges, and (ii) students representingPolytechnics in the country participated in this mega event.Altogether four papers were adjudged for prizes by a panelof three judges, namely, Dr M Kaladhar, Dr S V S Sudhakarand Er D V Ramakrishna. This session was concluded with the vote of thanks proposedby Dr G Padmavathi, Honorary Secretary of VisakhapatnamLocal Centre of The Institution of Engineers (India).

In order to give better and prompt service to our T/ST and other members, the Institution has implementedInteractive Voice Response System (IVRS) at its Headquarters.

Existing T/ST/Corporate members of the Institution interested to know the roll number/examination results/paymentdetails or any other queries related to Examination/Membership may dial the number 033 4015 5400.

Members are to key-in 7 digit membership number and first 11 digits of the reference number received throughsms or letter from IEI (as applicable) and follow the instruction as sounded by the system.

IMPLEMENTATION OF IVRS AT IEI HQS


ONLINE PAYMENT FOR EXAMINATION-RELATED SERVICES

Candidates, interested to remit online payment of requisite fee by credit card for appearance in the examination/registration for Section B/re-registration of examination/extension of examination registration/change of optional subjects,are requested to visit our website www.ieindia.org and click on Payment Gateway for Guests and Members under web-enabled services at home page. It has a numerous advantages, namely, as follows:

l Need not to make the draft and payment of commission to the bank.

l Avoid risk of misplacement of document with draft during postal/courier transit.

l Avoid inordinate delay to receive the document with draft at HQs.

l Instant acknowledgement of amount and documents by receiving Request Reference Number and Authorization Code.

Please ensure receipt of Authorization Code along with Request Reference Number for valid transaction.

Transaction without Authorization Code will not be considered as valid.

The Council at its 639th Meeting at Nagpur Approved the following for Amendment of Examination Rules :

FIXATION OF TERM OF EXAMINATION BASED ON DATE OF ENROLMENTThe first examination that the candidates are eligible to appear shall depend on their date of election as mentioned below. Thestipulated six-year period shall be counted from the date of eligibility as per following schedule :

Candidates enrolled between Eligible to appear for the first time in

March 1 - August 31 Winter Examination (same year)

September 1 - February 28/29 (next year) Summer Examination (next year)

Introduction of Plastic Photo Identity Cards for Associate Members

Pursuant to the decision of the Council, Senior Technician (ST)/Technician (T) members, after passing Sections B

examination, would be eligible to become Associate Member (AM) directly. In order to transfer their membership grade

from ST/T to Associate Member, they are required to apply for the same with a demand draft of ̀ 1500/- (US $ 100 for

overseas candidates) in favour of ‘The Institution of Engineers (India)’ payable at Kolkata. A proforma for this purposewould be sent along with the pass mark-sheet/grade card of Winter 2014 Examination to all pass-out candidates ofWinter 2014 Examination.

NEW EXAMINATION CENTRES FOR SECTION A (DIPLOMA)

The Council has decided to conduct Section A (Diploma) Examination at Dehradun (Centre Code248) and Shillong (Centre Code 793) with effect from Winter 2014 examination. Candidates, intendto appear in Summer 2015 examination from either of these examination centre, can fill-up theirexamination application from quoting the correct Centre Code Number as mentioned above.

NEW EXAMINATION CENTRES FOR SECTION A (NON-DIPLOMA) AND SECTION B

The Council has decided to conduct Section A (Non-Diploma) and Section B examination at Anpara

(Centre Code 231) with effect from Winter 2014 examination. Candidates, intend to appear in Summer2015 examination from either of these examination centre, can fill-up their examination application fromquoting the correct Centre Code Number as mentioned above.

The Summer 2015 Examinations of IEI shall be conductedin 67 examination centres both in India and abroad duringJune 6-12, 2015 as per the Programme printed on pages14-16. Both the Section A (Diploma and Non-diplomaschemes) and the Section B Examinations shall be held asper the Programme.

Applications submitted during the period mentionedhereunder shall only be considered for Summer 2015Examinations:

Candidates not appeared at From February 17 toWinter 2014 Examination March 23, 2015

Candidates appeared at From March 23 toWinter 2014 Examination April 23, 2015

A candidate shall not be allowed to appear in the followingschemes exceeding the number of subjects as mentionedagainst each scheme:

Section A (Non-diploma) 4 subjectsSection A (Diploma) All subjectsSection B 4 subjects

Examination Form is available in the Membership Pack aswell as on IEI website www.ieindia.org. The photocopy of

the Examination Form shall be accepted only if copied clearlyon A-4 size bond paper. The Examination Form duly filled-inshould be sent directly to the Headquarters of the Institutionwith requisite fee of ̀ 2000.00 by demand draft.

Submission of Examination Form after the last date shallbe rejected automatically. Plea of ignorance in this respectshall not be accepted under any circumstance.

In case of non-receipt of the result of Winter 2014Examinations for any reason whatsoever, candidates shouldsubmit the forms within the stipulated date mentioning thesubjects in order of preference, including the subjectsappeared at the last examination. In such case, the subjectswill be allotted giving preference to the choice of subjectsbut excluding the exemptions, if any, and permitting toappear in the next subject available to them in the sequentialorder of subject code. Examination fee shall be refundedonly to passed candidates as per rules.

Time Limit to Carry Forward Subject Exemptions

A candidate shall be required to pass the InstitutionExamination within a specific period as mentioned hereunder:

Section A : 6 years Section B : 6 years

n Only one form should be submitted. Submission ofmore than one form may cause automatic rejection ofapplications. Fee will not be refunded or adjusted forsubmission of duplicate Examination Form. Telephone/Mobile number and e-mail, if any, should be quoted in theExamination Application Form. No covering letter isnecessary for submission of the form.

n Each application, accompanied by exact ExaminationFee (` 2000.00) for admission to the examination, shouldreach on or before the last date of submission of forms.Examination fee once paid is neither refundable nor transferable tothe subsequent examination or to any other account.

n Examination Fee (`̀̀̀̀ 2000.00) should be paid byonline through credit card or by demand draft. Pleaseavoid sending more that one draft and also any otherfee along with the Examination Fee. Do not staple thedraft along with the letter/examination form. Use gems clipor pin only.

n Forms are to be sent only to the Secretary & DirectorGeneral, The Institution of Engineers (India), 8 GokhaleRoad, Kolkata 700 020, and also accompany the fee bydraft drawn on Bank at Kolkata in favour of The Institution

of Engineers (India). Particulars of the draft/online paymentshould be mentioned in the form at appropriate place.

n Name and membership number of the candidatemust be mentioned on reverse side of the draft.

n Candidates intend to appear in Section A/Section B mustuse the Examination Application Form given in the EnrolmentPack or available on the website www.ieindia.org.

n All payments must be made directly to theHeadquarters at Kolkata by online through credit cardor by demand draft only. Cheques, IPOs, money ordersare not accepted.

n The details of passing Sections A and B Examinationsor exemption therefrom should be stated clearly in theExamination Form with the grade of membership.

n A candidate should mention the correct codenumbers of the examination centres, branch andsubject(s) in which s/he desires to appear in theExamination Application Form. Wrong code numbers ofcentres, branch or subject(s), if mentioned in the form, willautomatically result in allotment of the centre or branch orsubject(s) to which those code numbers belong.

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE INSTITUTION EXAMINATIONS

THE INSTITUTION EXAMINATIONS

n Re-appearance in subject(s) in which a candidate hasalready secured exemption(s) will be considered ascancelled. The previous exemption(s) stand valid.

n Candidates should normally select the examinationcentre within the jurisdiction of their respective State/Local Centre. In exceptional circumstances, candidatesmay be permitted to appear from the Centres outside thejurisdiction of their State Centres provided they enclose withtheir Examination Forms the satisfactory evidence of theirbeing required to appear from other Centres. No applicationfor a change of Examination Centre will be entertained afterthe last date of submission of application forms.Appearance from a different centre, without the priorapproval of Headquarters in writing, shall beconsidered as irregular.

n Technician members, who have not paid compositesubscription, will not be permitted to appear in theexamination.

n Candidates elected as Senior Technician/Technicianmembers can appear in the immediate next examinationafter their election, as per fixation of term of examinationgiven on page 11 subject to timely submission of theirexamination forms with requisite fee.

n A candidate should also mention in the ExaminationApplication Form her/his roll number, year and month inwhich s/he has passed Section A Examination.

n No candidate shall be allowed to appear at theexamination without the Valid Identity Card. A candidate,who has not yet applied for Identity Card, is required toapply and collect the same before the commencement ofexamination.

n A Corporate Member desirous to appear in additional branchis expected to apply for an Identity Card, duly filled in andattested by a Corporate Member, enclosing a demand draft of` 150/- at least two months prior to examination. Suchcandidates are expected to apply for registration of Section BExamination in the prescribed format [printed in Volume I: Rules— The Institution Examinations (page 39, Appendix VI)] orcan be downloaded from www.ieindia.org, and send alongwith registration fee of ` 3000.00 (US $ 200 for overseascandidates) by demand draft. The application with fee mustbe sent at least three months prior to the commencement ofexamination.

n A Corporate Member, who has already passed SectionsA and B Examinations or is exempted therefrom, will onlybe permitted to appear in any one additional branch ofengineering in Section B, in which Section B examinationsare being conducted at present, on payment of examinationfee of ` 2,000.00 or US $ 150 (as applicable) in eachexamination subject to fulfilling the requirement as per rules.

n The candidates, who passed Section B Examination inone branch in revised scheme shall be eligible to claimexemption in common subject(s) of same nomenclature in

the additional branch, provided they secure Grade ‘C’ orhigher grade in such subject(s).

n A Corporate Member, who has already passed Sections Aand B Examinations or is exempted therefrom, will only bepermitted to appear in additional subject(s) of Section A orSection B on payment of an examination fee of ̀ 500.00 persubject. The grade secured in the additional subject(s) willnot be added to the original pass result of Section A or SectionB under any circumstance.

n Request for change of subject(s) shall not beentertained after submission of Examination Form.

n The Institution reserves the right to reject incomplete orillegible examination forms without any reference to thecandidates.

n The charge of ̀ 150.00 for processing the examinationform shall be deducted while refunding the examination fee.Balance examination fee will not be adjusted to any otheraccount.

n Any candidate, who is not eligible to appear at theInstitution Examinations, will be intimated duly assigning thereason for rejection of his/her examination form.

n Certain requests such as acknowledgement of receiptof examination form, subsequent corrections in the form,despatch of grade card/marksheet to a temporary address,revaluation of answerscript, award of grace marks, etc shallnot be entertained.

n A candidate, whose name does not appear in the ‘List ofCandidates’ provided to an Examination Centre, will not beallowed to appear at the examination from that Centre.

n In case a candidate claims that in spite of submitting anexamination form in conformity with Rule, s/he has neitherbeen provided with Admission Card nor provided anyinformation about the rejection of her/his application, s/hecan submit a fresh examination form along with a demanddraft of ` 1500.00, with photocopies of her/his originalexamination form, details of the demand draft and a copy ofthe postal receipt, to the Officer-in-Charge for provisionalappearance in the examination. In case the candidate’sclaim is found to be not in order, the fee deposited by him/her shall be forfeited and his/her appearance shall be treatedas irregular.

n Mobile and programmable calculator are notpermissible in the Examination Hall. Non-programmable calculator, however, is permitted in theExamination Hall.

n For correspondence in regard to any examination,candidates should always mention the membership gradeand number, examination in which they appeared, the centreof examination and roll number, phone/mobile number ande-mail ID, if any, for quicker response.

The Council at its 673rd meeting held at Kolkata Resolved the following:

Candidates, appearing in a particular session in Section A / Section B examination, may appeal for verification of theiranswerscript(s) for arithmetic correction in totaling of marks and any omission/deletion in evaluation within 15 days fromthe date of declaration of results at HQs of the Institution on the prescribed proforma as given below with fee of ̀ 500/- peranswerscript by demand draft in favour of 'The Institution of Engineers (India)' payable at Kolkata. On receipt of the requestfrom the candidate with fee, the exact date and time will be informed to the candidate to inspect his/her answerscript(s) atthe HQs of the Institution at his/her own expense. PREMATURE RE-REGISTRATION FOR EXAMINATION

The Council, at its 680th meeting, approved the rule for premature re-registration of Section A/ Section B examination , to be effectivefrom 01 June 2014, who are within the currency of six years period. The eligibility criterion and other details are given hereunder:

Eligibility: Candidates be permitted to apply for pre-mature re-registration, after the expiry of five years of stipulated six yearsperiod when they have not sufficient time to pass the balance subjects of Section A/ Section B examination. Such candidatesmay submit their premature re-registration form for another six years period to appear afresh in all subjects of Section A/ SectionB with the following condition(s).

Condition :

For Section A (Non-diploma)

Candidates passed only one subject in Section A (Non-diploma) till the expiry of five years of stipulated six years period, areeligible to apply for premature re-registration. [Candidates passed two or more subjects in Section A (Non-diploma) after theexpiry of five years of stipulated six years period are not eligible to apply for premature re-registration.]

For Section A (Diploma)

Candidates in Section A (Diploma) are not eligible to apply for premature re-registration.

For Section B

Candidates, who are unable to pass any subject in Section B till the expiry of five years of stipulated six years period, are eligibleto apply for premature re-registration. [Candidates passing one or more subject(s) in Section B after the expiry of five yearsof stipulated six years period are not eligible to apply for premature re-registration.]

Six year period shall be counted from Summer examination of the year in which a candidate submits his / her application forthis purpose.

For Section A candidates, subject exemption, if any, shall be forfeited after premature re-registration.

For Section B candidates, pass status of Section A examination will remain unaltered.

How to Apply : Candidates are expected to apply on the prescribed format for Application for Premature Re-registration alongwith a demand draft of Rs. 2500/- (US $ 200 for overseas candidates). In case of Section B candidates, they would also berequired to apply for registration of Section B on the prescribed proforma (printed in Vol. 1 : Rules on page 39 and available onIEI website) with a demand draft of Rs. 4500/- (US $ 300 for overseas candidates).

Candidates are advised to apply with requisite feefor the same so as to reach at the Headquarters office latest by April 10 forSummer examination and October 10 for Winter examination, failing which they will not be eligible to appear in the respectivesession. However, Such candidate will be eligible to appear in immediate next examination on submission of examinationapplication form with requisite fee.

EXAMINATION RE-REGISTRATION AFTER

EXPIRY OF SIX YEARS FOR SECTION A/SECTION B EXAMINATIONS

As per Clause 8.7 of Examination Rules printed in Vol. 1 (Rules & Syllabi), the prescribed period for passing Section A or SectionB Examination is six years. Candidates, who would be unsuccessful in Section A or in Section B Examination after the expiry ofsix years period , would be eligible to apply for Examination Re-registration as per rules.

Before submitting the application for Examination Re-registration, candidates are advised to read the following carefully:

Category 1 : Candidates, who are unsuccessful to pass Section A Examination in six years, shall be permitted to appear afreshin Section A Examination. Subject(s) exemption(s) secured during six years , if any, shall be forfeited. They would be required topass Section A Examination afresh as per the existing scheme .

Category 2 : Candidates, who have already passed Section A Examination but unsuccessful to pass Section B Examination insix years, shall be permitted to appear afresh in Section B Examination in existing scheme retaining their Section A status. Theywould be required to apply for Registration of Section B on the prescribed proforma (printed in Vol 1: Rules on page 39) with ademand draft of Rs. 4500/- (US $ 300 for overseas candidates), in addition to demand draft of Rs. 2500/- for Examination Re-registration with filled-in prescribed format. In such cases, subject(s) exemption(s) secured during six-years , if any, shall beforfeited and they would need to pass Section B Examination afresh as per the existing scheme. Also, they would be required todo project work and the laboratory experiments afresh.

Six years period shall be counted from Summer examination. For example, if six years period of a candidate expired in Winter2013 examination, re-registration period of six years shall be counted from Summer 2014 irrespective of the month and year thecandidate submits his application during the currency period of re-registration.

Candidates, under category 1 and 2 above, should apply for Examination Re-registration as per the format (available on IEIwebsite) along with the fee of Rs. 2500/- (US$ 200 for overseas candidates) by demand draft. Candidates, under category 2,should also apply for Registration of Section B along with a demand draft of Rs. 4500/-. If there is any change in addressrecorded with the Institution, a separate demand draft of Rs. 150/- (US$ 15 for overseas candidates) should be sent by thecandidate along with the prescribed proforma duly filled-in.

Candidates are advised to apply for the same so as to reach at the Headquarters office latest by April 10 and October 10, failingwhich they will not be eligible to appear in immediate Summer and Winter Examination, respectively.

On receipt of the application for examination re-registration and registration for Section B, as applicable, with requisite fee, anew Identity Card shall be issued to all such candidates.
