THE OCEAN

An ocean is the largest body of salt water. It is over the whole world. It has a lot of animals and plants. On the bottom of the ocean it is dark and on the top it is light. There are different parts of the ocean. The ocean is awesome!!!

The ocean is split up into levels called zones. The first zone is the sunlight zone. The second zone down is the twilight zone. The third zone is the midnight zone where it is dark and the lowest level is called the abyssal zone. It is the darkest and deepest part of the ocean, where the sunlight zone is the is the lightest and closest to the seashore or land.

Many animals live in the ocean. The Portuguese Man-o-warLives in the twilight level of the ocean. Dolphins are at he sunlightzone. Turtles live at sunlight zone, too! The Garden of eels at the Bottom of the sea which is the called the abyssal zone.

We have learned about lots of plants in the ocean like rockweed and seaweed. Lots of animals eat rockweed and seaweed like turtles and fish. There is a plant called red algae that also gets eaten by fish. Ocean animals get eaten a lot in The food chain, too!

The Portuguese Man-o-War has one fish that its sting doesn’t work on. The fish is called the nomeid fish. The nomeid fish hides under the Man-o-Wars tentacles for protection from sharks and other big fish. It can also get food scraps from the Man-o-War. It is a whole different world under the ocean and we enjoyed learningabout it!
