  2. 2. From The Headteacher - Mr Simon Higham Issue 26/Page 2 AP1 Parent Blog and BIS HUB Click on the links below to access the AP1 Parent Blog and the new BIS HUB on the main website. There is a wealth of information on both sites about our school and what the children have been up to. AP1 Parent Blog BIS HUB It has been another busy week at the AP1 campus. We were delighted on Monday to welcome back our FOBISIA Music students who, under the carful guidance of Ms Beth, participated in the FOBISIA Arts Carnival hosted by Shrewsbury School, Bangkok. The event was a major success culminating in a magnificent concert on Sunday and accord- ing to the feedback from Ms Beth, the students and the parents in attendance, it was superb. We are delighted our children could be part of such an event. As one event finishes the focus is already shifting to the Spring Concert on Wednesday 1st April. This is a wonder- ful evening with all three campuses participating. If you are a parent of the children in any of the choirs or orchestras taking part, please do make sure you have purchased your tickets from Ms Trang our AP1 cashier. As you are no doubt aware, the temperature has risen in recent weeks and we would ask you please to make sure that your child comes to school every day with their hat and water bottle, both essential items with the current hot temperatures that are set to continue. Our Terrace Caf is proving popular with parents and teachers and I would urge you, if you have not already done so to pop by and grab a cof- fee, pastry, smoothie or juice. We have some seating available overlooking the field where parents can meet while waiting for children at the end of the day or just after drop off. It might prove to be the ideal venue for class coffee mornings! A reminder please that no children should be buying items from the Terrace Caf unless they are with an adult. Clubs and Activities are drawing to a close and next week will be the last week of clubs for this term. It has been another successful term with chil- dren able to choose from a wide variety of clubs. While we are not yet fin- ished with Term 2 clubs, Term 3 clubs are already being finalised and the booklet will be shared with parents on the 9th of April. More details will be shared with you in next weeks newsletter. Our parents evenings will be held on April 7th and 8th. For the first time we have used an online sign up system and the feedback to date has been very positive. Sign up has been extended until Tuesday, March 31st at 5pm so if you have not already done so, please make sure you book a slot online with your childs class teacher. The picture on the left is a screen shot of accessing the parent sign up portal. Just a few clicks and the appointment is made! It is always a pleasure to walk around the campus and visit the classrooms where our children are engaged in a plethora of learning experiences. This week has been no different. Activities have ranged from science investigations taking place in year 6, persuasive letter writing in year 3, community service partners visit- ing year 5, Foundation Stage investigating dinosaurs, a number of classes preparing for upcoming assem- blies, t-ball matches on the field, band performances in Music lessons and a host of other amazing learning opportunities. Learning could never be described as 1 or even 2 dimensional here at BIS with our teachers always striving to make the learning experiences for the children as exciting, dynamic and challenging as they can and they have certainly succeeded this week. No doubt these learning experiences will continue as our teachers continue to go the extra mile for our students. Wishing you all a relaxing weekend.
  3. 3. Issue 26/Page 3 FOBISIA Maths in Shanghai On Thursday 5th March, Ly, Jenny, Joseph and Phan Ha left the searing heat of Ho Chi Minh for the near freezing temperatures in Shanghai. Yet frostbite wasnt their only concern, as 128 other elite mathematicians lay in wait, along with several hundred of the toughest questions known to a Year Six child. However none of this failed to wipe the ever present smiles from our team, who earned consistent praise for the way they collaborated during the competition. From the opening Maths Trail to the closing construction task, they tried their very best, and were notable for their determination to enjoy themselves, long after fatigue and cold had dampened the spirits of their rivals. The trophy may gather dust in the cupboard of another school, but their memories will live forever. A special well done to Joseph for being in the team that won the Maths Trail! Mr Andy James Year 5 Teacher and Maths Leader
  4. 4. Issue 26/Page 4 Music Department - FOBISIA PPAC FOBISIA Primary Performing Arts Carnival 2015 This years Carnival was hosted by Shrewsbury International School in Bangkok. 21 students from the TX and AP1 primary campuses travelled to Thailand to rehearse with a huge choir and orchestra of over 250 members from FOBISIA schools around the region. The theme for the weekend was Primary Colours and all of the mu- sic we performed contained references to different colours. The children also had an opportunity to take part in some traditional Thai games and toy-making activities. What a fabulous event and we cant wait until next year when the carnival will be hosted by BIS Vietnam. Mrs Beth Bown AP1 Music Leader
  5. 5. Issue 26/Page 5 EAL Department - Writing Skills Year 4 have been writing persuasive texts. The chil- dren have been working collaboratively to reconstruct a text from a listening. After doing so, they identified the grammar features and vocabulary used when writing a persuasive letter. The children then wrote their own letter to Saigon Zoo, expressing their opinions on the use of zoos. Mr Luke Turner Year 4 EAL Teacher We have been improving our writing by identifying parts of speech in our sentences; have had fun work- ing on our speaking skills and thinking fast on our feet! Year 3 have been reading plays and learning how to write dialogues. Check out our display. Ms Lisa Sood Year 3 EAL Teacher Writing Persuasive Texts
