Independence Day Celebration at Tau Devi Lal Stadium on the 15th

    of August 2016

Wearing Nations pride on their beautiful faces with a cheerful smile, students from Grades 3 to 8 participated in the Independence Day celebration at Tau Devi Lal Stadium on the 15

    th of August 2016.

Months of rigorous practice made way to a bright sunny morning on the 15th

which was greeted by OORJA, an aerobics drill practiced by the entire conclave of Ridge Valley School students. The name OORJA signifies energy which was apparent from the zeal with which students planted each step. This formation signified the force and energy with which our nation is surging ahead in the field of development and progress. Each step was well thought and designed to showcase the vigour with which Progressive India is willingly embracing the change for growth and development of the country. The programme at Tau Devi Lal stadium began with a parade inspected by the chief guest Captain Abhimanyu, Cabinet Minister in Govt. of Haryana . Parade was followed by drills and dance performances by various school students. Towards the end, the honorable Chief Guest, spoke at length about the efforts of his government to improve education in the state. He also noted and appreciated the efforts of all participants from various schools and with a kind heart, granted a holiday on 16

th as a reward for the commendable performances.

    Inter House Debate Competition

Ridge Valley School has set the benchmark for conducting activities in such a way that the students not only enjoy but also learn a great deal from it. With the same perspective in view, the principal Mrs. Guneet Ohri, an excellent orator spear headed this years debate competition for students of class V to IX. In different categories the topics of the debate were: Should the role of James Bond be played by only a man! and Is Media more sensational than responsible. The representatives of the various houses spoke vehemently on the issues and came up with their perspective regarding the same. They cited reasons and supported them with suitable examples from real life, to justify their stand. The debate competition came alive as a volley of questions was answered, inviting more questions which got further answers from both sides. Each participant rose to the occasion to defend their argument. The judges for the day, Ms. Radhika Chand and Ms. Deepali Jain were deeply engrossed in the ideas of the students, and were impressed with the relevant questions posed by the Interjectors. Speaking on the occasion they praised the efforts of children in designing such an event to debate on innovative topics which are so socially relevant. The students of grades V to IX who were an audience to the show, thoroughly enjoyed the event.

Harry Potter Fever Grips Ridge Valley School by its Theatrical Roots

    By early morning, 25th

of July, evidence of strange wizardry was visible all

    over Ridge Valley School.

Morning practice and tennis sessions were ongoing and equally tiring yet

nothing could deter the mystically enchanted spirits of young Ridgeans

who were seen eager to finish up all assignments and class work before-

hand, so they could make way to their seniors on time and catch a glimpse

of real magic first hand, Pottery potions.

Throughout the week letters kept pouring in. Enthusiastic readers and fans

from Grade 4 to 9 spent careful hours drafting letters to J. K. Rowling her-

self. While some wrote away to their hearts content, others put their artis-

tic skills to test, by creating bookmarks, posters and book covers only to be

placed on display as promising antique for the opportune moment in fu-

    ture.

The sudden rush and bustle in school library showed an apparent interest

in reading Harry Potter Stories. This was turning out to be another event

that kept sending more of them, in towards the wonderful world of words.

When students had their way with it, classrooms were turned into mystical heavens with artefacts and posters, singing tales of

their love for Harry potter trivia.

Middle school let their imagination off the leash when they came together in solidarity to weave together numerous little activi-

ties for the entire school to practice and participate in. While a short movie followed by Harry Potter trivia served best to reaffirm

their love for magic and potions; the scene of Sorting in classrooms after lunch every day drew in curious gazes from beholders

from all ages under the roof. These 15 minutes away from books took the wannabe Hogwartians into the fantastic world of fa-

    miliar magic and sorcery.

And in the end, to christen the Harry Potter Week a befitting goodbye, all Ridgeans descended down marble stairs to huddle

around wearing their perfect getup and shimmery costumes for the commemorative photograph. Each one on 29th

    , was their

    favorite Harry Potter character.

Cheerful smiles on those young tender faces partially masked with theatricality, remind us all, how these delicate years will fly

past us without a warning and so we must make every effort in making sure that schooling leaves behind fond memories of ex-

citing memorabilia in the hearts and minds of future generations.

    Buddy Reading

The Buddy Ready activity was conducted on the 29th August 2016. Children from Grades 4 and 5 came over to Nursery and Kindergarten to read out stories to their little buddies in small groups. It was a lively atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and chat-

ter. The older children read out the books expressively with patience helping the little ones understand the moral value that each

book contained. The children were so involved in both narrating and listening to the stories that each child ended up reading

two to three stories to their little buddies. All the children enjoyed the activity and the younger children thanked their seniors for

coming by and reading out to them.
