common nursing diagnoses
the common nursing diagnoses for cliens with Guillain-Barre syndrome are:
1. ineffective breathing pattern, ineffective airway clearance, and impaired gas exchange related to respiratory muscle weakness or paralysis, inability to cough and deep breathe effectively, and immobility.
2. impaired physical mobility related to weakness, paralysis, and ataxia
3. impaired verbal communication related to intubation or paralysis of the muscles required for speech
4. powerlessness related to the inability to perform activities of daily living (ADL) and usual role responsibilities
5. anxiety related to powerlessness, uncertain prognosis and fear of the unknown
6. anticipatory grieving related to loss of function and inability to perform usual roles and responsibilities
7. self care deficit (level depends on extent and stage of disease) related to weakness or paralysis
8. pain related to paresthesias
ADDITIONAL NURSING DIAGNOSES
inaddition to the common nursing diagnoses, the client may also have one or more of the following nursing diagnoses:
impaired home maintenance management related to lack of knowledge or inadequate support systems
sensory/perceptual alterations (tactile, kinesthetic, and visual) related to paresthesias and diplopia
high risk for impaired skin integrity related to altered sensation, altered nutrition, or immobility body image disturbance and self esteem disturbance related to loss of body function, physical
changes, and dependency altered nutrition : less than body requitments related to difficulty chewing,dysphagia,paralysis
of extremities, anxiety, or depression high risk for fluid volume deficit related to cranial nerve paralysis,dysphagia, and paralysis of the
extremities constipation, diarrhea, or bowel incontinence related to inadequate oral intake, immobility, and
impaired communication decreased cardiac output related to autonomic dysfunction
