Inspired by the vision of its benefactor, the Frederick S. Pardee Center for theStudy of the Longer-Range Future at Boston University was established in 2000 to identify, anticipate and enhance the long-term potential for human progress, globally and in all its dimensions.

Mr. Pardee received his Bachelor and Master degrees from Boston University andpursued his passion for analyzing trends for the future as a systems analyst and aneconomic forecaster. In recognition of his intellectual contributions to futuresresearch and human well-being, Boston University dedicated an historicbrownstone at 67 Bay State Road as Pardee House (which serves as the Center’shome) in 2000, and in 2006 awarded Mr. Pardee an Honorary Doctorate.

e Pardee Center works with Boston University students and faculty from alldepartments and schools, and partners with eminent experts, think tanks andresearch institutions around the world in fulfilling its mandate.

e Center’s work is motivated by Mr. Pardee’s global sensibility and his dedicationto the creation of better futures for all of humanity. Our work is grounded in therealization that while many of the greatest challenges faced by humanity are long-term, today’s decision-makers and knowledge-producers often operate in short-termtimeframes. Seeking to redress this imbalance, the Pardee Center convenes andconducts interdisciplinary, policy-relevant and future-oriented research that cancontribute to lasting improvements in the human condition.

Identifying, anticipating and enhancing the long-term potential for human progress.
