Analysis Of Three Music Magazine Covers
This magazine, Vibe, appealed to
me simply because of the vibrant
colours and neat layout.
The colours used, for example in the masthead, give a ‘fresh’ feel to the
cover.
I also like the use of colours in the cover lines, for every one artist, the next artist is the alternate colour.
The skyline style in this magazine may be something I want to achieve in my own music magazine project; the way the font size of the top line is smaller than the second and again, the use of colour is very effective.
This is the pull quote, a quote pulled out from the inside of the magazine.
The way the main image of Kanye West is portrayed and represented is in a very serious way, he is not smiling, jumping around or looking exciting, he is portrayed as being a deep, interesting character, making you want to open the magazine and find out more about him.
The mast head on this magazine is in a very in your face, bold style with a bright, eye-catching colour.
The main cover line has been placed on a slant, and with that font, gives the impression that it has been stamped on somehow.
The cover lines here, listing the names of the artists featured in the mag have, like the previous magazine VIBE, been typed up in alternating colours to help separate them.
From a marketing point of veiw, the sky line is very effctive as the first thing you read is ‘FREE CD’ which is a big draw in for fans of the magazine already.
This magazine is aimed at the older generation compared to the previous two magazine, you can tell this simply by looking at the skyline and cover lines to find out what it features inside.
The main image is extremely simplistic with just a simple gradient fill behind it, the man in the main image is old, making the magazine appeal to an older generation.
The masthead makes it clear what the magazine is about.
The colour pallet for this magazine is very limited, but in a way so that it could still manage to stand out amongst others sat on a shop shelf as the colours used differ from music magazines aimed at a younger target audience.
