Motivation

● Use of Information and communication Technology in learning.

● Infrastructure, accessibility, linguistics aspects of pedagogy.

● Expensive devices – smart interactive white boards, projectors, computers are not feasible.

● Open hardware devices that are relatively cheaper than these devices can be brought to use in local public schools.

Motivation

● Open Hardware means hardware with less licensing issues.● Texas Instruments released miniature computing open hardware devices such as

Panda Board, Beagle Board, Beagle Bone for DSP applications like speech,music and video processing.

● Other open hardware devices include Cubie Board, Rascal, Open Pandora.● These devices are highly expensive of the order of hundred

dollars with capabilities of past generation computers.

● Raspberry Pi used in several applications such as Robotics, Meteorology, Home automation, Gaming devices.

● The major aim of Raspberry Pi in the countries like U.K, France, U.S.A was to impart animated programming skills using applications such as scratch and pypy.

● But it is not the only way to look at Raspberry Pi.

Vernacular language support – intelligent Bus

$sudo apt-get install ibus ibus-m17n im-config

install the necessary fonts. ttf-telugu-fonts

Run i-bus preferences in the GUI environment, and add telugu as your desired input method.

Run in a terminal:

$ im-config -n ibus

Logout and re-login.

The ibus input method can be activated and deactivated in all applications with the keys configured (default: Ctrl + Space).
