Analysis of magazines

Page 2: Analysis of magazines

The title is clear and simple with

the ‘f’ correlating with the

classic theme. It uses puffs such

as; ‘Free CD’ as an incentive for

people to buy the magazine. The

res of the theme of the magazine

is very royal with the blue and

grey contrasting very well.

Most of the writing is on the

left hand side , combined with

the ‘free CD’ which acts as a

very good incentive for the

opera lovers.

The strapline is the same

colour as the masthead

which shows the equal

importance it has.

The barcode is on the bottom

right which follows the

conventions of a magazine.

The cover lines are short

and simple which makes

the reader want to read

more. Also, the cover

lines make the reader

want to buy the magazine

as one of the cover line is

‘Classical Brit Awards

2009’.

Page 3: Analysis of magazines

The image is a medium close up of a beautiful woman standing

out form the grey due to the lighting and the make up she has

put on. Her eye make-up and the background colour of the

magazine are both similar which also makes the picture stand

out more. However, the reader needs to be aware that the lady

in the magazine is a opera singer. Her sleeveless dress is similar

to the colour scheme which makes the cover seem as if its

contemporary and stylish.

The direct eye contact and the smile is very inviting and

engages the reader. The image is behind the title but it doesn’t

affect its over appeal.

There are two more small images, one of the image is of a

singer in a recording studio and the other image is of one of an

opera singer. There is more information in this magazine which

conveys to the reader that both the text and photography are

equally important to them.

Page 4: Analysis of magazines

The masthead is large

and takes up about quarter

of the page. The font style

is simple and clear and

the colour of the font is

white which gives it a

classy effect.

One of the cover lines is

‘American Dream’ which is in big

font than the other cover lines

which shows that the cover line is

important than the others.

However, it can raise many

question in the readers mind to

how the American Dream is linked

to the image of the violinist. This

could persuade the reader to buy

the magazine as they would want

to know the link between the two.

All of the writing is placed

on the bottom left hand

side away from obscuring

the beautiful image which

shows the importance of

the image.

The barcode is placed on the

bottom right hand side which

follows the convention of the

magazines.

Page 5: Analysis of magazines

In this magazine there is only one long shot image of a

woman, whereas in the previous magazine cover

(Classic FM) there was 3 images. In this magazine

there is an image of a woman in a flawless white, long

dress, sitting on white stairs. Her long, black hair is all

put to the left hand side which contrast well with the

white and makes it seem more attractive.

The beautiful woman is holding a violin which then the

reader will know she’s a famous violinist and will

instantly want to purchase the magazine to find out

more information about her.

Due to the fact that the image is of a woman, it would

immediately draw men to it but also women. The

woman looks like a confident individual and the image

is proof of this. The woman's head cuts of the ‘U’ in

‘MUSO’ which makes it seem more professional.

However, the image does not have eye contact to the

reader which is quite inconvenient and breaks the

conventions.

Page 6: Analysis of magazines

The barcode is

positioned at the bottom

left hand corner which

follows the conventions.

The ‘Q’ logo is big and clear

which shows the brand is

recognisable.

The masthead is clear and

bold which immediately

attracts the reader. Also, the

font style is simple and the

font colour is white which

contrasts well with the colour

scheme. Moreover, there is a

puff which says ; We’ll Be

The First Band In Space!’

which makes the reader want

to buy the magazine and find

out more information about

the band.

The cover lines are short and

simple and most of them are

placed on the right hand side

which makes the reader want

to read more. Also, the cover

lines are aligned so it looks

more professional.

The colour scheme of the

magazine is decent, as the

background colour is grey/blue

which contrasts well with the

colour the band members are

wearing. Also, the red contrast

well with the blue and

therefore makes the magazine

stand out more.

Page 7: Analysis of magazines

In this magazine, similarly to the previous magazine

‘MUSO’, there is only one long shot image of the three

band members. Their outfit contrasts with the

background which makes the magazine stand out more.

Also, they have eye contact towards the reader which

makes the reader feel welcomed and engaged, and it

follows the conventions of a magazine.

Due to the fact that it’s a boy band, it would attract more

girls as they look young and modern.
