DESCRIPTION

Abstract— In stretch flanging, the curvature of the bending line is concave and the metal is circumferentially stretched. Apart of many geometric and material parameters initial flange length is an important parameter in stretch flanging process. In this paper finite element simulation of stretch flanging process has been carried out using commercial finite element software. The effect of initial flange length on deformation behavior of sheet is carried out and results are compared in terms of radial strain, circumferential strain and flange thickness distribution along free edge. Besides this influence of initial flange length on maximum radial strain, maximum circumferential strain and maximum thinning in flange is also investigated. It is found that the circumferential strain and flange thickness decreases while radial strain increases with decrease in initial flange length along free edge up to sheet center. The maximum radial strain, maximum circumferential strain and maximum thinning are found to be increased with increase in initial flange length.Keywords-Flanging, finite element simulation, initial flange length, strain.
