Analysis of

three horror

movie posters

The title represents the horror genre by the writing being clear and by each word being of a separate line and not all nice and neat (on word under another). The red writing of ‘House’ suggests that the house is dangerous and that you should never go their as red is a connotation of blood and by the writing being smeary it suggests that somebody has been cut/murdered and the smeary blood represents that evidence may have been left inside the house.

The strapline suggests that somebody loved may have been killed and their father/brother/friend is going

to get revenge on whoever killed their loved one.

The black and white coloured background suggests that this movie was filmed during the night and suggests danger/mystery. By the house being in the middle of nowhere this strengthens our interpretation as they cannot see anything also in the background except from a spooky looking house.

The enigma for this movie poster is : Why is the house in the middle of nowhere?, Why are people going there?

The camera shot of the house is a long shot, we know this as we see the house from a distance and we can see the trees behind the house.

The black and white coloured background suggests that this movie was filmed during the night and in perhaps a cellar this could suggests danger/mystery. By the woman holding the doll and her face not facing us we can interpret that perhaps the doll is controlling her. By the doll facing us it suggests the evil presence in the room and which is controlling the woman.

The enigma for this movie poster is : Why is woman holding a doll and not facing us? What powers do the doll control?

The camera shot of the room is a long shot, we know this as we see the woman from a distance an what she is holding.

The title represents the horror genre by the writing being clear and by each word being of a separate line and not all nice and neat (on word under another). The writing suggests that ‘The Conjuring’ may be something that takes place and which is supernatural, possibly controlled by the doll.

The strapline suggests that film is based on real life events. This will therefore intrigue the audience to go and see the film as they want to see how the family dealt with these occurrences and why they happened.

The release date is purposely on the advert so that people know when the film will be out and when to pre order potential tickets by for the

opening screening.

The black and white coloured background suggests that this movie was filmed during the night this could suggests danger/mystery. By the man being in what we presume is the woods, we can interpret that maybe he is chasing somebody, we interpret this as he is carrying a bayonet which is capable of cutting of somebody's head in one swoop. The mask he is wearing offers connotations in which perhaps he has escaped from prison.

The enigma for this movie poster is : What is the man holding? Why is he in the woods? Why is he wearing a mask?

The camera shot is a long shot, we know this as we see the man from a distance an what he is holding.

The title represents the horror genre by the writing being clear and easy to read. The red writing of ‘FRIDAY THE 13TH’ suggests that this day is very significant in dangerous things happening and that you should be very careful as unexpected things can happen such as a man carrying a bayonet. The red writing could suggest blood and by the writing being under the man with the bayonet could it suggest that somebody has been cut/murdered and the man is responsible.

The release date is purposely on the advert so that people know when the film will be out and when to pre order potential tickets by for the opening screening. This

is symbolic to the title and because of this a greater audience will be drawn in.
