Moving beyond simple lecture recording you can now create and engage your students with the many new interactive tools, and track their engagement and learning. Lecture Capture Policy at UWA The University has under taken a proactive approach to

Installing Universal Capture Please watch this demo video on installing Universal Capture on your device. Note: If you experience any difficulties in viewing the video, please try a different web browser.

Accessing Universal Capture and logging in 1. Double click on the “Echo360 Universal Capture” icon.

2. If prompted, click “Click here to login”. This will open a tab in your browser.

3. Enter your Pheme details and click “Log in”

4. A small window will open. Click “Open Echo360 Capture”. You should be automatically returned to the Universal Capture application.

Recording a video or presentation

1. Click on the blue arrows to select your visual inputs, or what you would to record. One example, might be to record from a webcam and a screen displaying a PowerPoint presentation (as shown below).

2. Select the microphone input. Most laptops have a built-in microphone, but you might also be using a microphone on a headset or webcam. Universal Capture will automatically select your default microphone.

3. Before you start recording it is a good idea to name your recording. Click “Edit capture details”.

4. From the Capture Details screen you can enter a title for your recording, and you can use the “Publish

To…” dropdown menu to automatically share the recordings with students in a unit you are linked to. By default it will publish the video to your personal library and you can share it to multiple locations later.

5. When you are ready to record click on the big red button. This will initiate a 5 second countdown. Universal Capture will minimise when the recording commences. Once the recording is in process you can deliver your PowerPoint presentation as normal.

6. During the recording you can ‘Stop’, ‘Pause’, or ‘Delete’ the recording.

7. When you stop the recording it will automatically start uploading the video into your ‘My Content’ library in Echo360. Depending on the duration of your recording this may take some time (generally about half the duration of the recording).

You can commence a new recording while a previous recording is uploading.

Share your recording 1. In order to access your recording you will need to log into Echo360. Start by opening a browser and going

to http://echo360.org.au

2. Enter your UWA email ([email protected]) and click “Submit”

3. If prompted, use the dropdown menu to select “The University of Western Australia”.

4. Enter your Pheme details and click “Log in”.

5. On the Echo360 landing page, click on “My Content” in the left-hand menu.

6. Locate and click on the recording you wish the share. If you have a lot of recordings in your library you might find it useful to use the Search bar or ‘Sort by’ filter.

7. Once you have selected your video, scroll down to the ‘Share Settings’ section. From here you can share directly with a students in a unit by clicking on “Add To A Class” – this will open a new window that will allow you to select the unit you wish to share it with. Alternatively you can click “Add Link” which will generate a shareable link that you can distribute.

The Lecture Captures System (LCS) makes it easier

to rename and re-order your content. If you have

lectures scheduled in a recording-enabled venue,

you will see all your scheduled lectures ready to

go. All you have to remember is to TURN ON your

microphone and check you can hear yourself

through the venue speakers.

Rename your lectures Scheduled lectures have generic title names and

should be renamed to reflect the topic/s in the

recording, to let students know what to expect.

Click on the edit icon (pencil icon) to edit the name

and description of your class/ lesson. Click ‘OK’

EEU Recommendation – ‘Lecture Number’ – ‘Topic’

‘Lecture 1 – Introduction to Accounting’

Re-order By default, class (lecture recordings) are listed by date

and time, with the oldest class appearing at the top

and classes without dates appearing at the bottom of

the list.

Instructors can change the order of their class list to:

① Sort the classes in chronological order, either with

the newest class first or the oldest class first.

② Move classes into groups to provide a logical set

of similar topics.

Click ‘NEW COLLECTION’, type in the collection

name and save ‘OK’.

Click ‘REORDER’, click and drag classes to move

them around in the list. Click ‘Save.’

Uploading content into LCS

Step ① - Navigate to your Echo360 Library Login to Echo360 and navigate to your Echo360 Library as shown in image below.

Step ② - Upload Content Click on the Upload button.

Use the location selection on the left to identify where the file you want to upload resides, then follow the prompts. If the file is saved locally, select ‘My Computer’ at the top, then click the Select File button.

You will also be able to upload content from various sources such as you computer, Dropbox, Google drive, Onedrive etc.

Step ③ - Uploaded file appears in Library page Once the file is identified, the window changes to provide an upload progress bar. When finished, the window disappears. The newly uploaded file appears in the Library page, but is dimmed while it is processed. Once processing is finished, the menu changes to show the options for the content.

Note: Depending on how big the video file size, the process can take a long time, you can leave the page and come back later to check the progress.

You may want to refresh the page to see if the video processing has been completed.

Copying Lecture Recording Lecture recording or video content can be copied from units and previous teaching periods. However, instructors can ONLY share content they own, located in ‘My Content.’ To copy content from other units or previous teaching periods:

1. In the LMS, navigate to the unit which contains the video you want to copy.

2. In the unit, enter the Lecture Recordings page, and click on the green icon for the video, then click “Create Copy”. NOTE: You can only do this if you are a Unit Coordinator for that unit in LMS.

The video is now available in your Echo360 ‘My Content’.

Step ① - Navigate to ‘My Content’ To go to the Homepage, click the Echo360 icon. Click ‘My Content,’ find the video you want and click the video tile.

Step ② - Click Share

Step ③ - Click ‘Class.’ Select your ‘Course’, ‘Term’ and ‘Section.’ Click ‘New Class,’ add a ‘Class Name’ and click ‘Share.’

Step ④ - Rename and reorder the lecture recording in your unit.

Engage your students seamlessly during your

lectures, workshops, seminars using the

interactive tools built Echo360.

Have you ever tried to stimulate your students to learn

more while also while also having them engaged them

before, during and after class? Interactive slides are used

to engage students regarding specific topics and concepts

within a presentation.

Inserting interactive slides will trigger learning that is more

active and increase overall participation during class.

You can add activity slides through the Echo360 interface,

or you can download and install the PowerPoint Ribbon

add-on, which allows you to create, edit, and publish

presentations from within PowerPoint, including adding

activity slides.

Organising Your Presentation Adding questions into your presentation is simple and they

are easy to organise. Once you have clicked ‘Done’ on the

question you wish to add you can simply drag and drop the

question into any point in your presentation.

Adding Questions Adding questions to your teaching sessions allows you to

gain immediate feedback from your students about their

understanding of a topic as well as maintaining their

concentration.

You simply click on the ‘Add Activity’ button and then

select the question type illustrate in Image 3 and 4.

Label the question, add in the answers and then click

‘Done’.

Interactive Controls Once you are using an interactive slide a bar will appear at

the bottom of the screen showing all of these symbols

below

This first one shows you how many

students have participated in the

activity.

The hand symbol allows you to stop the

activity when you choose so no more

responses can come in from the students.

The graph symbol shows you and your

students the answers that have come in for the

activity so you can see the levels of

understanding from your students.

The upwards arrow allows you to show the

solution to the students and explain how they

would have gotten to this answer.

You can also reset the activity and allow

your students to try again

Hiding Questions You can hide the interactive slides from your students until

you are ready for them to participate.

This is done by clicking on this

eye symbol with a strike through

it. When this symbol is red it

means it is hidden.

When it is grey with no strike

through this means the students

can see and participate with the

question.
