■ GOOD NEWS FROM THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL , MRS. MIHULKA :

Page 4: Anastasia 20081102

To make yourself more comfortable, you don’t need to spend a lot of money. Try some of these tips to avoid discomfort.

▪ Roll up a small towel and duct tape it to the chair to provide

greater low back support.

▪ Remove arm rests if they do not permit you to move your chair

close enough to the desk.

▪ Put an old phone book, tied or taped closed, on the floor under

your feet for a foot rest.

▪ Move your monitor directly in front of your keyboard.

▪ Adjust the curtains or blinds to keep glare off the computer

screen, placing the monitor perpendicular to the window.

▪ Clear everything out from under the desk so you have plenty of

room to stretch your legs.

I hope some of these ideas help make you feel more comfortable

while you are working at the computer. However, if you experience persistent pain or numbness in your fingers, hands, feet or back, consult a qualified health professional.

Beth Chiariello, Ph.D., OTR/L

Tips for Working at a Computer

When setting yourself up at a computer, you need to find a comfortable, well-

supported position in which:

▪ Your feet are flat on the floor

▪ Your low back is supported by the

chair

▪ Your wrists are not bent when using

the keyboard or the mouse

▪ The monitor is at, or below, eye

height

▪ Your sitting posture is erect, not

slumped

▪ The keyboard and monitor is directly

in front of you

▪ You do not reach past arm length for

frequently used items on the desk

▪ You have adequate light without

glare

Movie Club is offered to adults only. We are selecting movies that are interesting, inspiring, sometimes forgotten, thought-provoking and artistically significant. We use the Youth Center, which is equipped with AC, comfy couches, decent stereo sound and big-size projection screen. Snacks, wine and soda are served.

“The Visitor” A deeply moving drama built around longtime character actor Richard Jenkins, The Visitor is a simmering drama about a college professor and recent widower, Walter Vale (Jenkins), who discovers a pair of homeless, illegal aliens living in his New York apartment. Writer-director Thomas McCarthy has created a wonderfully measured story about change and re-newal, and put it all on the shoulders of Jenkins, a largely unheralded but masterful performer whose time for renown has surely come. --Tom Keogh USA 2007; PG-13; 1:43 hr Thursday, November 13 at 7 PM Youth & Young Adults Center (Entrance adjacent to the church, 2nd floor) $3 cover wine, soda & snacks
