Help the Homeless

H omeless men living under Flushing Meadow

Bridges need clothing For a number of years now and thanks to the generosity of our parishioners; every Sunday morning during the winter months, we bring hot choco-late, a sandwich and some warm clothes to a group of homeless men living under the bridges and surrounding areas of Flushing Meadows Corona Park. These are men who for different reasons have given up on life and seen unable to cope with it. As the cold weather approaches, once again we are preparing to start our mission and we need clothing. If you have warm clothes and blan-kets that are clean and in good condition and would like to donate them please call us and we will pick them up. For more information call Jorge at (718) 224-8187 or (718) 423-5988. Choir News

E ach year we struggle to keep the presence of

Christ central to our celebra-tion of Christmas. But the Sun-day readings at Mass during Advent help us with another

challenge: keeping Christ’s presence central during Advent season. This year a large cast of figures from Peter and Paul to all four Evangelists to John the Baptist to Mary and Joseph help us to keep the presence of Christ at the forefront of our spiritual lives during our Advent prepa-ration for Christmas. Christ is with us always as we await his Second Coming, even as we prepare to celebrate again the festival of his First Coming. Join us for a series of Advent reflections using Scripture and film as we seek to Keep Christ in Advent. We will meet on Tuesday evenings, December 2nd, 9th and 16th in Father Smith Hall from 7:30—9:00 PM as Fr. Bill McLaughlin guides an Advent spiritual journey to Keep Christ in Ad-vent. Movie Club

T he next screening at the Movie Club will take

place on Thursday, December 4 at 7:00 PM. More informa-tion in the next Sunday’s Bul-letin.

Happy Thanksgiving! Mrs. Lucy Mihulka Principal, St. Anastasia School

W e are delighted to announce that thanks to the efforts of Northern Auto Care, Inc. located at 244-05 Northern Blvd., Douglaston, St. An-

astasia School has been awarded a $500 ExxonMobil Educational Alliance Grant. The money will be used for the continued support of our technological pro-grams. This year, the school has gone wireless, in-stalled a new computer room, and continues to purchase SMARTboards, as funds allow. We thank this estab-lishment and ask that you patronize the worthy estab-lishments who care about the children and the commu-nity. The grant is funded by the Exxon Mobil Corpora-tion. The ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program is designed to provide Exxon/Mobil retailers like Northern Auto Care with an opportunity to invest in the future of the community through educational grants to neighbor-hood schools. Our Student Government recently communicated the following: “As we come upon this season, in which as a country we celebrate the national holiday of Thanks-giving, St. Anastasia School looks for meaningful ways that demonstrate, through service, our appreciation for “All good gifts around us…”. With this in mind, the Student Government is leading the following service projects: Grades K to 2: will gather loose change to be donated to Bridge to Life to feed infants whose mothers have chosen life for them and who are in need of support for basics. Grades 3 to 5: will donate non-perishable foods that will be used in needy parishes within the Brooklyn Dio-cese. Grades 6 to 8: will lead the collection of gently used jackets and coats to be donated to the needy. If anyone in the Parish would like to participate in any of these service projects, please contact the office. The students will participate in a Thanksgiving Prayer

service on Wednesday, November 26 at 11AM in the Church. All in the parish are invited. Dismissal is at 12 Noon for Thanksgiving recess. The students return to school on Monday, December 1st with report cards being distributed on Friday, December 5th. A reminder that our annual Christmas Fair is scheduled for Saturday, December 6th from 9 to 5PM. It is a heart-warming way to start the holiday season and we thank all who work so hard to make it a success for the school. All at St. Anastasia School wish you and your families a blessed Thanksgiving Day as we give thanks for the great gifts God has given us.
