Faith & Conflict

Over the past several weeks I have been sharing about Table Talks, and I have been reflecting on my experience from 2 weeks ago. It began with worship, liturgy, communion, and covenantal agreement to stay curious, be kind, and listen with the same amount of passion with which you want to be heard. We moved into our conversations next; where the first topic was conflict, how conflict was handled in our own homes as we grew up. Each one around the table shared their own experienced and the other people at the table listened with the intent to understand. No questions were to be asked, just to listen and thank the one who had shared. In these short 3 minutes per person you learned a lot about the people at your table. It was a curious thing to sit and listen in the next movements of the day but I was reminded of what scripture calls us to do when we disagree, how we are taught and ultimately called to work with each other through conflict, to come to the table. Matthew 18:15-17 says “If a fellow believer hurts you, go and tell them—work it out between the two of you. If they listen, you’ve made a friend. If they won’t listen, take one or two others along so that the presence of witnesses will keep things honest, and try again. If they still won’t listen, tell the church. If they won’t listen to the church, you’ll have to start over from scratch, confront them with the need for repent-ance, and offer again God’s forgiving love.” Not many of us at the table had this experience growing up. But I wonder how different things would be in this were the normal for working through differences and conflict together. This is what coming to the table can look like, first one on one, then a few others who have the same heart intentions, and then to the church community; and then start over if things are not resolved. In order for this to happen, each party has to be willing to come to the table, at the very least to hear why one is upset or is hurt. This is not how the majority of our country works through conflict, but we are called to live counter-culturally in this time. We are called to live following the commands to love God and love our neighbors, try-ing to be more like Christ, and being the light in the midst of darkness we encounter. As we continue to move forward as a people, do so with love, prayer, and a listening ear that seeks understanding. We are a people who have been called to go forth and share the good news of the whole story of the resurrected Jesus Christ. We are called to share with all that God loves all of creation and that is good news for all people. It’s hard to do this if we are not willing to come to the table with the people we disagree with. I hope you will choose to attend one of the remaining table talks, come to the table and hear from your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Come, so you can go forth sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ while loving God and loving your neighbors. Peace and blessings,

Youth Committee Spotlight

The Youth Group is having a End of Year Party on

May 20th from 5-7pm at the church. There will be a potluck, so bring

your favorite side dish! Pastor Autumn and Meghan will

provide the main course.

The Youth are also helping lead worship on May 20th,

please be at the church by 9 am. Breakfast is provided ! WooHoo!!

The Board of Trustees are the "property managers" for our church. This property in-cludes, the church building, land, parking lot, vans, and the parsonage. They are composed of a board, who create the plans and policies and are part of the this second group, a list of "doers" who are people who love to do and serve through their gifts of carpentry, planning, and mainte-nance skills.

2018 WOMEN'S GET AWAY WEEKEND

The Ashlock family has offered use of their place located on 120 Kitzuhel Rd in Girdwood. This condo is a wonderful fun environment for our gathering. The condo has a full kitchen, 5

bedrooms, living room, and 4 bathrooms. Treat yourself to a relaxing weekend get away! There is no planned pro-gram. Attendees can do what they want when they want. Spend time with other women from Anchor Park …

hiking...crafting...reading…playing games…sharing good food…enjoying the outdoors…or just hanging out.

Transportation can be coordinated for those needing a ride. Cost for the weekend is $30/person. Meals provided Thursday dinner, three meals on Friday, Saturday-brunch, dinner, Sunday brunch. Don’t let finances keep you away any one needing a scholarship all you need to do is tell us. Can't come for the whole weekend...come for the day or two. Babies under the age of 1 are welcome, please plan to provide all the baby food.

Hello FISH supporters!! MANY THANKS to all of you who have renewed your Fred Meyer Community Re-wards for FISH, and everyone who chose FISH in the Pick.Click.Give. cam-paign. (You can still modify your PFD donations if you forgot!) FISH has some important events coming up this spring. ** Friday May 11 we need help to wave signs reminding commuters to leave food at their mail box for the Stamp Out Hunger food drive sponsored by the Nat'l Assn of Letter Carriers! This food drive brings more than 3000 pounds of food to FISH each year!! ** Friday June 1 is the 26th Annual FISH Charity Golf Tournament. We need golf-ers, sponsors, prizes and volunteers!! Register your teams at www.fishcharity.org. Look for flyers and forms in the lobby soon. This is our ONE BIG fundraiser of the year. Last June we raised $30,000 all for food purchases.

Anchor Park UMC collects cans of tuna on the first Sunday of each month to support this ministry.

A collection basket is located in the Robinson Room.

Photos & Photographers

Anyone who would like to update or add a picture to the bulletin board just bring photo and drop it in the church of-fice. The church will get them posted ASAP. Also, the church is looking for some-one to take photos on a regular basis for events and as people join our congrega-tion for the bulletin board. Birchwood Camp

Spring is on the way, and that means it's time to get camp ready for summer!

We'd love for you to come join us for volunteer Sundays - spend an afternoon outdoors at beauti-ful Birchwood! We have projects for all ability levels - no need to have any special experience, just willing to spend an afternoon with us.

It happens every 1st Sunday of the month from 1-5 pm, or whenever you are available. The first one for this year is on May 6th.

We hope to see you there!

One Room School House

Our summer program for the children will start on June 3rd with One Room School House for ages 3 years to 5th grade. This will replace Activity Time and will meet in the Tongan Room. The curriculum is very user friendly and requires two teachers because of the age spread. Please consider signing up to help and indicate dates that you would NOT be available.

Teens are welcome to assist an adult.

This year's theme is "Rolling River Rampage" and we

will go on a white rafting adventure to experience the ride

of a lifetime with God. We will learn to trust God to be

with us through anything!
