What is a secondary source?
Yen Mah, A. (2008). China: land of dragons and emerors. Allen & Unwin: Crows Nest.
Secondary Source Example:Qin’s meteoric rise was based on meticulous planning. With his chief minister, Li Si, he streamlined the administration and with sweeping land reforms created a sound agricultural base for feeding the troops. The entire population was mobilized into ‘productive occupations’ and the army was honed into an instrument of attack the like of which has seldom been seen. An elite force, its discipline was legendary and the ferocity of its troops, who slaughtered their prisoners, inspired dread among their opponents. Between 230 and 221 BC, with a skilful mixture of diplomacy, cunning and strategy, the Qin devoured their enemies ‘as a silkworm devours a mulberry leaf’, and by 221, the Tiger of Qin had eliminated all opposition, unified China and declared himself Qin Shihuandgi – ‘The First Emperor’. His intention was clear: ‘We are the First Emperor, and our successors shall be known as the Second Emperor, Third Emperor, and so on, for endless generations.’ (Paludan, 2008, p. 17).
