The skeletons of small insects are preserved intact within the amber fossils. The resin of
trees from the early Tertiary period or trees that are about 70 million years old form a
perfect ambience for the formation of a fossil. This is amber.
Resin from trees is typically insoluble in water. It forms a biologically inert area perfect
for the formation of fossils. This is where organisms are preserved intact despite the
ravishing effects of time and the environment.
Fossilization results in the preservation of insects and other organisms trapped within an
area that is biologically immune from the outer world.
This means that there can be little or no interference on the part of the external world in
the form of natural forces like water or air. These insects or animals find their way into
the biologically immune area by chance or by mistake.
They may have found their way into the induced prison when the trees shed their resin.
The exodus of the resins forces the insects and organisms to lose their holds on the trees
or their perches and they tend to drop into their prisons where they eventually form
fossils.
These animals and microorganisms may find their way into the biologically inert
environment because of an inherent weakness that causes them unable to maintain
themselves on the trees. They eventually end up in an environment that is biologically
inert and immune.
As additional resin finds itself on the already deposited resin, it hardens up and forms a
hard and sturdy skeleton. A process known as polymerization is responsible for the
hardening of the resin. The hardened form of resin is known as copal. The process takes
a long time, even millions of years at some times.
This way, their skeletons are preserved intact over the years, with very little happening to
their bones, but they do lose a lot of the soft tissues within their bodies. Bacteria and
algae, and environmental forces of water and sun force the tissues to change and
degenerate.
Amber fossils are found in every parts of the world as Germany and Great Britain.

There are a lot of microscopic air bubbles present in these fossils, so there is a milky or
cloudy appearance in them. There is a considerable amount of hue and tiny air bubbles in
the fossils.
The sap from trees served to trap and ensnare insects like flies and small worms. They
eventually became entombed in the sap. Eventually, the tree died and it fell into a swamp
or decomposed in the natural process.
Over centuries and decades, the tree and our insect caught into the sap is preserved, while
the tree is converted to coal deposits.
Over the years, the coal bed is submerged within the seas. This is discovered by us
millions and millions of years later. Amber is used for jewelry as it is very good looking
and attractive.
It was believed to be good to promote good health and could keep away evil spirits in the
ancient times especially by the Greeks. There are several people who collect amber and
preserve it as a prized possession.
