Ancient Greece
•Ancient Greece has some of the most greatest history in the world.•Greece is located in Europe. •Athens is the city that symbolises
freedom, art and democracy.•Greece is surrounded by events
that have taken place in the past.
Troy• In 1870 Heinrich Schliemann found
geographic clues in north west Turkey. • He excavated a hill and was convinced he
found the ancient city, Troy.• They found arrow heads.• They found a deep ditch around the city.• There was evidence that the city was
destroyed by a fire.
ARCHITECTURE• Parthenon - The Parthenon was built in the 5th century
BC, even though the enormous damage, it has survived over the centuries.
• The Temple of Athena Nike - The Greeks built the Temple of Apollo at Didyma, Turkey. Columns surrounded a small chamber that housed the statue of Apollo. With Ionic columns reaching 19.5 m (64 ft) high.
• Greek life was very religious. They also had a political purpose as they were often built to celebrate civic power and pride.
• The Greeks developed three systems, Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian.
• During the 13th century a well-built wall was constructed. These walls that were created by the Mycenaean kings were around eight meters high.
• Ancient Greece is famous for many wars.• A few are The Battle of Marathon, The
Archidamian war and The Sicilian war.• The Athenians won The Battle of
Marathon.• The Archidamian war began when
Spartans accessed the regions surrounding Athens
• Athenians lost the Sicilian war.
Famous Greeks• Alexander the great• Archimedes• Alexander the great was the greatest
military genius.• Archimedes was the greatest
mathematician and scientist.• There were famous playwrights, historians
and sculptors.

• Greek society had 2 groups.
• 1 groups were free people
• The other were the slaves
• Slaves were owned by free people
• Slaves had no rights
Olympics• The Greek invented athletic contests.
• They held them in honour of their gods.
• The first Olympics was held in around 700 BC in honour of Zeus.
• Only men were allowed to take part in the Olympics.
• The first international Olympics was held in 1896.
