Temple of Devanari in Indabettu villege at Belthangadi Taluk, South Canara Dist, says Prof. T. Murugeshi, Dept of Ancient History &

Archaeology M.S.R.S. College, Shirva in his press release here on Tuesday. Indabettu lingam is about 2 feet in height and looks like a

male penis.

Famous Iconographist Dr. T.A. Gopinath Rao identified a Shivalinga at Gudimallam in Andhra Pradesh which was hitherto known as an

oldest linga of South India. Iconographically Indabettu linga is also having similarfeatures. Gudimallam linga is dates back to 2 century

B.C. by Gopinath Rao, so that Indabettu linga also assignable to the same period. On the basis of iconography and curious phallic nature,

Indabettu lingam is the 2nd of its kind in South India and First of its kind both in So uth Canara and Karnataka.

Original temple is said to be located behind the top of the hill which was known as Manju Gunda: says Ananda Bhatta the temple priest.

The place name Manju gunda itself suggested that the temple might have been in the control of Nath Pantha in 10th 11th century A.D.
