Ancillary research into

Digipaks

Research into real media products with a similar

genre to us, this was important towards our

research and planning as we identify common

conventions seen on them and how we can apply

them to our work.

This will also help us towards building our brand

identity and how we aim to portray our artist.

How it is Accessible

Regardless our ancillary task must include all of these aspects in order

to look professional. Saying this we must also fit in the genre

conventions to portray our artist. Therefore we looked at digipaks and

websites of artists similar to us in order to understand how they have

built their image and brand identity.

Synergy is created as the mise-

en-scene from her Single „Only

girl in the world‟ is used. This is

used to make her more

identifiable for the audience.

Creating brand identity- Rihanna

has her new hair style therefore to

build this image around her the

layout of the digipak & music video.

The image is spread across two

panels which suggests that she is

reaching out. From the use of a

close up of her face, with the use of

red lipstick and roses gives the

connotation of lust, romance,

seduction, in which entices the

audience .

Evaluation – I like how Rihanna has built her

image successfully by creating synergy across

her products. A consistent image was

conveyed across her products which make her

identifiable. This would be a process to follow

when considering making our ancillary task,

making sure that our image is constant

representation.

From looking into her website, we

gained an understanding of what

kind of information need to be

publicized and titles of each of the

pages- what is conventional pages

on websites. The main aim of

website is to promote the artist, it

allows their fans to access

information about the,. Such as tour

dates, photos, news and updates

about them. More over interacts with

them, allowing them to follow on

social networking site. This reflects

The music video, the has been colour corrected in order

to create a pink wash out effect. This is to represent her

new „Image‟ This flirty feminine image represented by

the her seductive clothing and mise en scene. The

symbolism of the rose – love , elegance, delicate, is

also shown on the Cd image

Katy perry‟s website is similar

to that of Rihanna in the sense

that the titles of the web pages

are the same. This is therefore

the lay out that we will follow

when we make our website.

Katy Perry is known for being

the more quirky fun pop artist,

in which is reflected through

her, fantasy videos with

elaborate mise-en-scene and

costumes. This image is also

seen through her

I have noticed from looking

into real media .texts that on

the website, the main feature

is to promote and sell the

artists new album. There is

a color theme of pink which

is consistent through the

digipak and music videos as

well as

The album name is

called “teenage dream”

thus would relate and

appeal to its target

audience of teenagers ,

moreover the picture

illustrates it well as it

has a cloud and the

connotations of a

cloud- dreaming

Unlike the Rihanna digipack,

there are a collection of images,

this is to reiterate the fantasy

image, she is conveyed with a

crowd which suggests that she

sees herself as queen of her

style

The same typography is used across

the digipak and the website, this

keeps a consistent image. The disc

is plain with just the name of the

artist, This is conventional of more of

the indie genre

However we found it unusual that they hasn't

kept the same house colors to that of the

album cover. The images on the digipak reflect

the album title “Lights” well, through the use of

editing to create the glowing lights around her.

The golden colour compliments her image well

and creates this “star effect” in which is also

seen on the head of the website – the star

night cover.

Although both the digipak

and the website are

integrated into her music

video for lights, in which

was successful due to the

black backing and by use

of Editing and CGI to

create these lights

In comparison to the other websites that I

have looked into I likes Taylor swifts due to

the changing slides on the home page of

the website. Each slide was an

advertisement promoting different aspects

about Taylor swift- eg her tour, new album,

radio reviews.

The same typography

is used on the album

and on the website.

Helps to promote and

sell it.

Interactive – using social networking

sites to engage with the target

audience

The CD matches the

cover casing for the

back.

A theme is built

through the use

of the bold red

stripes to

emphasize on

that the album

name is Red

Additional have been

added on the front

cover to promote the

CD and encourage the

audience to buy it

The bar code has been

placed in an

unconventional way,

when it is commonly

seen in the bottom right

hand corner of the back

case

Taylor swift is very popular within the

target audience in which we want to

appeal to, as she started off ass a teen

pop singer with her singer “love story”

in which the music video was based on

a narrative reflecting romeo and juliet

to match the context of her song. She

is a main inspiration for our music/

style as she has a similar image to that

of our artist „Vandana‟

late

desig

ns This is a basic Album

digipak It consists on

the cover,

conventionally with an

image of the artist and

the title of the album

The back has the

track listing of the

songs, has the bar

code, price and

record label. The

back cover varies,

as not all usually

have an image of

the artist,it is

usually either a

plain colour of the

house style or an

illustrated image

that reflects an

element of the

artist or album

Depending on the genre of

the artist, the CD design is

either a illustrated image of

a plain colour of their house

style

This would usually be a picture of

the artist or have some form of

inform of information that would

relate and link to other products such

as their website.

Some digipaks include a

booklet, these usually

consists on images of the

artist, they can be a lyric

book for contain

information about the

songs such as who wrote

them or small notes from

the artsist about the

song, inspiration etc. This

appeals to the audience

kPlanning for our Digipak

This is a flip out cd cover in

which the disc is folded

inwards, meaning that more

images can be presented

on itWe believe that

this would be

the most

effective way at

building our

artist image and

creating a

house style. We

can use more

images of the

artist and

objects that

symbolise her

and reflect the

ideas of the

album name

We have decided we want to call our album

Catharsis. We like the connotations of the word and

how we can create the meaning that music clears

the mind . This will therefore be the foundation

towards creating our digipack what images would fit

this style

Images

relating to

the word

lexis

“Catharsis

” such as

clouds,

darkness,

psychedeli

c images

We would have the image of

our artist here with the title

“catharsis”

Track listing would go here
