HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY

TEXTS?

Page 2: Ancillary texts question

THE FILMFilms are advertised in many different ways across different media platforms. These advertisements allow the audience to have a preconception of the film before they go to see it. Marketing tools are very important to films as they can normally impact on how well the film does. Posters are a key marketing tool to attract an audience with graphics and lead actors, it is the first marketing tool to be created by the production company, it is released before the theatrical trailer.

A film review is not a tool used by production companies but it is vital in telling the audience the positives and negatives of a film. The review will impact the films success in the box office and may even influence award judges.

THE FILM REVIEWThe film review is a major part in making sure the audience know what to expect from the film they are about to see. Production companies need to be aware of reviews so they keep an eye on them, if they find a particularly good review then they may add it to their poster to try and capture the eye of the audience.

In our review we decided to take an Empire approach and decided to make it a bias review.

We included the poster in our review so that the audience will be attracted to the page.

The stars will give the audience an idea of what the review is going to be like.

The title is big and bold so that the audience are attracted and they know what film the review is going to be about.

Another review on the side may also attract a reader and this allows them to read the main review as well.

Stills of a film allow the audience to get a sense of what happens in the film and a sense of the atmosphere of the film.

THE FILM POSTER

• The purpose of a poster is to advertise a film through the combinations of titles, the images portrayed, colour and design of the poster, actors names and taglines. Using these elements to make the film poster more attractive to the audience and connected with other pieces of the film. We decided to build our own film poster after closely analyzing a horror film poster.

WRONG TURN FILM ANALYSIS

The colour red on the actors name and the title of the movie suggests danger, death etc. It is used to catch the audiences attention

There is a picture of the enemy which half of his face is faded. This is trying to tell the audience that he is the villain and he will come out of no where due to the dark colours

There is a dark gloomy forest in the background which is trying to tell that the main horror scene will occur their. Its put in the middle so that the audience thinks that the two characters are going to be in the forest

This is some of the credits for the film to show the audience who are the people behind the film production because it might interest them

They have used a girl in this horror poster because it’s a typical convention of a horror movie as girls get scared more easily. Here facial expression tells us that something is not right.

The colours used in this poster are the conventions we see in typical horror movie. Dark orange, black, red colours shows threats etc.

HOW OUR STUFF LINKSOur poster shows the genre of our film through the colours and pictures we used. They clearly give off the sense of horror and fear. The face of the mummy shows there will be monsters in the movie.
