Lib Dems have been

cleaning up Crofton

Park, reporting more

than 15 local problems

to the council in

the last few weeks.

While Lewisham is

still investigating whoowns some derelict

houses, grot spots from

Brockley road to Blythe

Hill have already been

cleared up.’

Barrie Hall, from the

Crofton Park Lib Dem

Focus team, says ‘I’m

delighted that we’ve

cleaned up so many

places already. But

let us know when

you spot more local

problems and we’ll

investigate them. We’re

particularly interested

in derelict houses -

which sometimes turn

out to be propertiesthat Lewisham has

forgotten it owns!’

Lewisham Council makes £1.3millionprofit from controlled parking zonesLib Dems have exposed how

Lewisham Council profits from

controlled parking zones.

Last year, income from controlled

parking zones across the borough

exceeded expenditure by almost

£1.3million. That’s not surprising,

say Lib Dems, given that the charge

for a yearly residents’ permit has

DOUBLED in just one year.

“If the council is making such a big

profit from controlled parking zones, why did they need to

double residents’ permits charges from £30 to £60?” says

Lib Dem campaigner, Barrie Hall. Lib Dem councillors have

requested a breakdown for each parking zone, but the

Council says it doesn’t hold this information.

Barrie says, “This explains why the council refuses to

introduce shorter hours of operation for CPZs – the whole

thing is a profit making exercise.”

Climate Change Action for LewishamLewisham Lib Dems have succeeded in getting the council

to agree to cut their carbon emissions by 10% by the end of

2010.

Lib Dem mayoral candidate Chris Maines says: “I amdelighted that the other parties followed our proposal that

Lewisham should sign up to the 10:10 campaign. While the

Labour-run council has an extremely poor record in recycling,

I’m pleased to say that they have come onside to work with

us on climate change.”

Unemployment doubles in Crofton Park New figures from

Jobcentre Plus show

that over the last year

unemployment in Crofton

Park ward (covering

the most of Honor Oak,

Blythe Hill, Brockley and

Stanstead road areas)

increased by 98%.

Nearby Lib Dem run

Sutton council was

recently commended

by the independent

 Audit Commission for

its work helping the

recently unemployed,

but Lewisham’s Labour

Mayor has rejected calls

to introduce a similar

service.

Michele McClarren has

years of experience

helping people back into

work, and is launching

a campaign to tackle

unemployment in

Lewisham.
