MELBOURNE TO NAGAMBIE

Welcome to our wonderful Nagambie and Swan Hill tour! We’ll be collected from home by our chauffeur and taken to meet up with our friendly O’Shannessy’s Quality Tours crew and luxury coach. First stop this morning is Overnewton Castle. The castle was built in 1849 and now stands as a prominent heritage building. This Scottish Baronial style castle set amidst 4 acres of private tranquil English gardens makes the perfect setting for our morning tea after our historical tour. What an indulgent way to start our short break! From here we join the Hume Highway and make our way to Euroa where we stop for lunch. This afternoon head to Chateau Tahbilk where we join the Goulburn Explorer for a one-way cruise along the Goulburn River. Back on dry land, our coach will be there to transfer us to our accommodation at the Nagambie Waterfront Motel - a 4 star property on the shores of Lake Nagambie.

OVERNIGHT: Nagambie Waterfront Motel, NAGAMBIE

DAY 1 Monday 14th September, 2020

EXPLORING THE AREA

We have a fascinating day ahead of us today and not too far to travel! Following breakfast, we head to Seymour where we’ll take a little time to view the Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Walk, built to commemorate the service of all who played their part in what turned out to be a tumultuous part of Australia’s history. The centre piece of this Walk is the wall, made up of panels of DigiGlass with the name of every Serviceman and Woman who served, in their various capacities in that conflict.

DAY 2 Tuesday 15th September, 2020

DAY 3 Wednesday 16th September, 2020

NAGAMBIE TO SWAN HILL

We say farewell to Nagambie this morning and head to a little place called Boort – “the Northern Oasis!” On arrival we are met by our local guide and historian for an interesting day in an interesting country town. Our first visit is to John & Sonia Piccoli’s The Spanner Man, 2ha of gardens containing many sculptures made from farm spanners. John is also a collector of birds and has many varieties. We enjoy a tour of the gardens, sculptures and John’s studio – remember to bring your camera! Next is Salute Oliva – an organic olive farm that has won many awards. Our tour includes the olive trees, factory and show room. Peter and Marlies Eicher produce high quality olive oil, olive products including soap and home-made jams from their own fruit trees. Our lunch venue today is Simply Green Tomatoes & Aussie Wool Quilts, where, after lunch, we have a tasting of the products made from Green Tomatoes. We visit the tomato kitchen and the showroom where they make the quilts & pillows. After a great day, we say goodbye to our guide and head to Swan Hill, our home for the next two nights.

OVERNIGHT: Comfort Inn Campbell, SWAN HILL

We then travel to Kerrisdale where our next interesting stop is the Kerrisdale Mountain Railway & Museum. This is a unique railway built on a zig zag formation. The line climbs quite steeply as it winds its way through tall trees on a precipitous track cut into the mountain side. A panorama unfolds over the King Parrott Valley and further to the distant Victorian Alps. We have time for a live demonstration at the Steam Museum and a country style lunch. This afternoon we head back to Yea where we visit the Y Water Discovery Centre. Opened in August 2014, this information centre features interactive environmental interpretive displays to inform us about the importance of water and local wetland ecology. Located adjacent to the beautiful Yea Wetlands the Centre is a striking, architecturally designed building incorporating sustainable design elements and native landscaping. We take an interesting guided walk through the Wetlands before afternoon tea. There’s a range of local produce, gifts and artworks if anyone wishes to stock up!

OVERNIGHT: Nagambie Waterfront Motel, NAGAMBIE

DAY 4 Thursday 17th September, 2020

SWAN HILL

Swan Hill is a historic river port located on the Murray River. We are joined on the coach this morning by a local guide who will introduce us to the region. After our town tour we head into the heartland of the Mallee wheat lands to visit the only free-range game bird farm in Australia, Olson Pheasant Farm & Aviaries. We have arranged a guided tour through the native and exotic bird aviaries on the property. Following our tour we make our way back to Swan Hill and the Pioneer Settlement Museum, Australia’s first outdoor museum, for lunch. We’ll then have time to wander through living history as well as enjoy a cruise on the mighty Murray River aboard the PS Pyap paddle wheeler. Whilst observing the abundant wildlife we’ll hear the Captain recount fascinating anecdotes of the paddleboat’s years of service as a trading boat. After our interesting day, we head back to our hotel for dinner. But the day isn't over yet! This evening, we return to the Pioneer Settlement where we’ll see Heartbeat of the Murray, based on the banks of the Little Murray River. This night time spectacular laser show will trace the story of the Murray River—a journey thousands of years in the making.

OVERNIGHT: Comfort Inn Campbell, SWAN HILL

DAY 5 Friday 18th September, 2020

SWAN HILL TO MELBOURNE

Leaving Swan Hill this morning we head south on the Murray Valley Highway to Lake Boga, home to the famous Catalina Flying Boat A24-30—one of only four in Australia. Lake Boga was an ideal stretch of water on which the mighty flying boats could alight. The Flying boat played an integral part in the allied defence of the South Pacific during World War II, with all types of Flying Boats that were serviced at Lake Boga being represented in the Museum. A special section is dedicated to the United States of America and the Netherlands aircraft and crew who visited Lake Boga during World War II. Next we continue onto Bendigo for lunch and then head home to round off a great five day break. Our chauffeurs will be waiting as always to take us home to our very doors!
