We buried ours and the Turks buried theirs,Then we started all over again

3.They collected the crippled, the wounded and maimed

And they shipped us back home to AustraliaThe armless the legless, the blind and insane,All the brave heroes of SuvlaAnd when our ship pulled in to Circular Quay,I looked at the place where my legs used to be,And thanked Christ there was nobody waiting for me -To grieve, to mourn and to pity.

And the band played Waltzing Matilda,As they carried us down the gangway,But nobody cheered, they just stood and stared -And they turned all their faces away.

4.And so now every April I sit on my porch,And I watch the parade pass before me,And I see my old comrades how proudly they march,Reviving old dreams and past glories,But the old men march slowly their bones stiff and sore,Tired old men from a tired old war,And the young people ask what are they marching for,And I ask myself the same question.

But the band played Waltzing MatildaAnd the old men still answer the call,But year by year more old men disappearSoon no one will march there at all.

FIRE AND RAIN

James Taylor}{define: A9 1 3 2 4 2 0 0

A Em7 D A

Just yesterday mornin' they let me know you were gone, E Gmaj7

Susan, the plans they made put an end to you. A Em7 D A

I walked out this morning and I wrote down this s ong, E Gmaj7

I just can't remember who to send it to.Chorus:

D Bm7 E7 A

I've seen fire and I've seen r ain, D Bm7 E7 A

I seen sunny days that I thought would never end, D Bm7 E7 A

I seen lonely times when I could not find a friend, G Em7 A9 Asus A

But I a lways thought I'd see you again.

Won't you look down upon me Jesus, you've got to help me make a stand,Just got to see me through another day.My body's aching and my time is at hand,And I can't make it any other way.

Chorus.

Been walkin' my mind to an easy time, my back turned toward the sun,Lord knows when the cold wind blows it'll turn your head around.Well, there's hours of time on the telephone line to talk about things to come,Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground.

Chorus.

Give me a home among the gumtreesWith lots of plum treesA sheep or two, a k-kangarooA clothesline out the backVerandah out the frontAnd an old rocking chair

Some people like their housesWith fences all aroundOthers live in mansionsAnd some beneath the groundBut me I like the bush you knowWith rabbits running roundAnd a pumpkin vine out the backGive me a home among the gumtreesWith lots of plum treesA sheep or two, a k-kangarooA clothesline out the backVerandah out the frontAnd an old rocking chair

No first of spr ing, no song to sin g Dm G C

In fact here's just another ordinary day. C

No April rain, no flowers' bloom, Dm Dm7

No wedding Saturday within the month of June Dm Dm+M7 Dm Dm+M7

But what it is is someth ing true Dm G C

Made up of these three words that I must say to you.

Refrain: Dm G C

I just called to say I love you Dm G Am

I just called to say how much I care Dm G Am

I just called to say I love you Dm G C

And I mean it from the bottom of my heart.

No summer's high, no warm July,No harvest moon to light one tender August night. No autumn breeze, no falling leaves,Not even time for birds to fly to southern skies.

No Libra sun, no Halloween,No giving thanks to all the Christmas joy you bring,But what it is, though old so new,To fill your heart like no three words could ever do.Refrain:I just called to say I love you.I just called to say how much I care.I just called to say I love you 23

YOUR SONG

Elton John

D Gmaj7 A F#m

It's a little bit funny, this feeling inside Bm Bm/A Bm/Ab G

I'm not one of those who can easily hide D A F# Bm

I don't much money, but, boy if I did D Em7 G A

I'd buy a big house where we both could live

D Gmaj7 A F#m

If I was a sculptor, but then again no Bm Bm/A Bm/Ab G

Or a man who makes potions in a travelling show D A F# Bm

I know it's not much but it's the best I can do D Em7 G D

My gift is my song, and this one for you

A Bm Em7 G

And you can tell everybody this is your song A Bm Em G

It may be quite simple but now that it's done Bm Bm/A

I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind Bm/Ab G

That I put down in words,

D Em G A

How wonderful life is while you're in the world

D Gmaj7 A F#m

I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss Bm Bm/A Bm/Ab G

Well a few of the verses they've got me quite crossed D A F# Bm

But the sun's been quite king, while I wrote this song D Em7 G A

It's for people like you that they keep turned on

D Gmaj7 A F#m47

Jamaica Farewell by Lord Burgess

[F]Down the way, where the [Bb]nights are gay

And the [C7]sun shines daily on the [F]mountain top

I took a trip on a [Bb]sailing ship

And when I [C7]reached Jamaica, I [F]made a stop.

But I'm [F]sad to say, I'm [Bb]on my way,

[C7]Won't be back for [F]many a day,

My heart is down, my head is [Bb]turning around

I had to [C7]leave a little girl in [F]Kingston town.

[F]Sounds of laughter [Bb]everywhere

And the [C7]dancing girls sway [F]to and fro,

I must declare, my [Bb]heart is there,

'Though I've [C7]been from Maine to [F]Mexico.

CHORUS

[F]Down at the market, [Bb]you can hear

Ladies [C7]cry out while on their [F]heads they bear,

Ackee*, rice, salt [Bb]fish are nice,

And the [C7]rum is fine any [F]time of year.

[C]Young man, there's no need to feel down.

I said, [Am]young man, pick yourself off the ground.

I said, [Dm]young man, 'cause you're in a new town.

There's no n[G]eed t[G]o b[G]e [G]un[G]hap[G]py.

[C]Young man, there's a place you can go.

I said, y[Am]oung man, when you're short on your dough.

You can s[Dm]tay there, and I'm sure you will find

Many wa[G]ys t[G]o ha[G]ve [G]a go[G]od ti[G]me.

[G]You can hang out with all the boys ...

It's fun to stay at the [C]y-m-c-a.

It's fun to stay at the [Am]y-m-c-a.

You ca[Dm]n get yourself clean, you can have a good meal,

You can [G]do whatever you feel ...

Young man, are you listening to me?

I said, young man, what do you want to be?

I said, young man, you can make real your dreams.

But you've got to know this one thing!

No man does it all by himself.

I said, young man, put your pride on the shelf,

And just go there, to the y.m.c.a.

I'm sure they can help you today.

Young man, I was once in your shoes.

I said, I was down and out with the blues.

I felt no man cared if I were alive.

I felt the whole world was so jive ...

That's when someone came up to me,

And said, young man, take a walk up the street.

It's a place there called the y.m.c.a.

They can start you back on your way.
