He has served as a director on the Board and as Chairman of the Board for ten years and currently serves on the Executive Board as immediate past Chair. We appreciate his support, his sense of humor and his easy laugh. He has made quiet contributions to the success of the Chamber and he is always open to a new idea,” Jean Gaines, Geneva Chamber of Commerce President said. While Hard has given time and lent his expertise to many organizations such as President of Tri-City Crime Stoppers for almost a decade, a Youth Exchange Officer encouraging high school students to study abroad, Movember – Prostate Cancer Foundation and Habitat for Humanity; the Rotary Club of Geneva has been a recipient of his volunteerism since 1984. In addition to his Rotary membership, Hard has held executive board positions, often more than once, including President during his tenure. His leadership of the annual Association for Individual Development (AID) Christmas luncheon, that Rotary provides, holds a special place in his heart. Hard was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow Award given to Rotarians in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given to The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. Groups such as the Geneva History Museum, Geneva Beautification, Geneva Garden Club, Kane County Sheriffs Association and Geneva High School have also benefited from Hard’s donations. “He genuinely enjoys helping people in the local community. Through hard work and tenacity he has been very blessed and is always looking for a way to give back. He is willing to volunteer for whatever he can, whenever he can,” comments his wife Kathleen. Hard’s generosity and humbleness resonates with anyone who knows him along with his commitment to keeping Geneva’s character and individuality top of mind when volunteering. “The way he gets things done behind the scenes without thought to recognition. The Member of the Year Award is presented to a person who has enhanced the Geneva Chamber of Commerce and Geneva as a whole through his or her continuing contributions of time and resources during a given year.

This year’s award goes to a person who has served the Geneva Chamber and the community of Geneva in numerous ways throughout 2015 and in previous years. This person has volunteered at many of our events and festivals since joining the Chamber. As well as giving support to the Chamber with sponsor-ship, donations and time.

This year’s Member of the Year has always been a conscientious, dedicated and generous employee. Working in Geneva since high school, this individual moved up to manager and purchaser quite quickly at the job. When the owners decided to retire and looked into selling the store, one of the major items they had written into the purchase agreement was that this individual’s job would continue with the new owners.

The 2015 Member of the Year has served on the Chamber’s Board of Directors since 2010 and is cur-rently a member of the Marketing Advantage Co-Op committee and active in the City of Geneva/Geneva Chamber BIR group. This person was instrumental in Geneva Chamber’s first 50/50 raffle coming to frui-tion this past year, while serving on the committee.

This individual is creative and progressive in her thinking. Constantly thinking “outside of the box” and encouraging others to do so too, she is not afraid to try new things and has utilized social media advan-tageously. With a positive attitude that is contagious, she understands that chamber membership is not merely about promoting her own business. Rather, it benefits the business community as a whole.

Without members like this person, the Geneva Chamber could not do what we do. It is with our most sincere gratitude that we present the 2015 Member of the Year Award to Martha Sanchez of State Street Jewelers.

And the Geneva Chamber of CommerceWood Award recipient for 2015 is…Gordon Hard. Gordon “Gordie” Hard is owner and President of Valley Insur-ance Agency in Geneva. In 1978, he purchased Petit Insurance Agency and in 1985 the William B.
