LEADER: This is the good news which we have received, in which we stand,
and by which we are saved.
PEOPLE: Christ died for our sins, was buried, was raised on the third day,
and appeared first to the women, then to Peter and the Twelve, and then to
many faithful witnesses. We believe Jesus is the Christ, the Anointed One of
God, the firstborn of all creation, the firstborn from the dead, in whom all
things hold together, in whom the fullness of God was pleased to dwell by the
power of the Spirit. Christ is the head of the body, the church, and by the
blood of the cross reconciles all things to God. Amen.
HYMN OF PRAYER “Alleluia” No. 186
PASTORAL PRAYER...LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the
kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Opportunity to serve our community! Community Meal at St. Richard’s is a meal provided to the needy every Tuesday night. Our
church along with several others in the community take turns mak-
ing the meal and serving the public at the location. In a typical year,
we serve the meal four times. We have to buy all the ingredients, cook what is needed and serve it in an assembly line fashion on that
night. Would you like to lead this important ministry for EUM?
Please contact Kevin Cookman at 456-6266 or [email protected].

CIRCLES OF COMMITMENTCIRCLES OF COMMITMENTCIRCLES OF COMMITMENTCIRCLES OF COMMITMENT
BELIEVE BELONG BECOME
Core: Leadership and Ministry
• Makes up approximately 10/15% of the membership and is the
most committed to Christ and to the ministry of the local church. • Accept a large responsibility for the ongoing mission and ministry.
• Most faithful in vows: prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. • Desire to grow spiritually.
• They do not get offended as often and understand regular and sacri-
ficial giving habits. • This is the part of church that can be the most honest, where truth is
spoken in love and understood in that framework.
Committed: Maturing Members
• Faithful in their worship attendance, these people often show up for
church school or Bible study, and they support programs of the church.
• Church is important to these folks, but they tend to speak in terms of what they receive versus what they give to the church.
• They tend to perceive church as something they belong to rather
than something they are a part of – a club, versus a body. • They are comfortable in church; therefore, they can be resistant to
change. • They may have strong opinions about everything, but they are not
always faithful.
HOW COMMITTED ARE YOU?HOW COMMITTED ARE YOU?HOW COMMITTED ARE YOU?HOW COMMITTED ARE YOU?
• The majority of a churches programming is directed to these peo-ple.
• They want the church to succeed, to thrive, and even to grow; how-ever, they do not want growth to cause too much change, nor do they want the church’s health to cost too much.
Congregation: Members
• This group does church on Sunday – but are not involved in much else.
• They are faithful to Sunday’s for “God-fixes” but little else.
• We need and want these people in our churches and we are grateful to have them; but a church would not survive long based on the good will of this group alone.
• They view church as consumers – the Church exists to serve their needs.
• They tend to be the most offended with money talk.
• They are not always clear about the mission and ministry of the church.
• They give to causes and less to budget.
• Mixing metaphors: Core is on the field; Committed are on the side-lines; Congregation is in the stands.
Crowd: Regular Attenders • Some may call these folks the Christmas and Easter crowd.
• They often do not believe that it makes a difference to them whether they are part of a church community or not – they feel they can be spiritual on their own.
• They have a very limited understanding of what the church is and does.
• They view the pastor as the paid professional who “runs” the
church. They do not understand the concept of “equipping the saints.”
• They need to have their need for connectedness awaken, as well as
their need for interdependence.
Community
• Inactive or uninvolved in a local congregation. Resources: Vital Signs by Dan Dick The Purpose Driven Church by Rick Warren
Evangelical United Methodist Church Vision
We envision a Healthy Church, where non-churched, once-churched, and
badly churched people find their lifeless souls resurrected to abundant life
in Christ. We desire a church that provides Ancient Future Worship, em-
bracing musical diversity. We envision a church that understands the dis-
tinction between worship and performance and comes expecting to engage
in God’s presence. We want a church that values integrity from the pulpit
and is known for teaching about the loving God who transforms and em-
powers us to love others. A church that is known for its hunger to go deep
into the scriptures, wide in sharing its faith, a church that allows the Holy
Spirit to draw us near into God’s presence, and encourages us to rest in
God’s Grace.
We envision a church that embraces and values a strong children’s minis-
try. A church in which a child knows that he or she is loved by Jesus, nur-
tured through creative and experiential ministry, and respected as a mem-
ber of the family of God. A church which values a strong youth ministry
which helps youth be involved in the present-day ministry, and to have the
tools to live life safely and boldly for Jesus in a hurting world. We seek to
be a church in which the parents’ efforts are supported as they establish a
spiritual foundation in the home.
We envision a church in which it is normative for adults to be involved in a small group ministry that provides a safe forum for them to wrestle with
God and to be in ministry with others. A church where all people use the
gifts and talents that God has given them, in order that the entire church
may function like a well-oiled machine or a well-tuned orchestra. We long
for a church where everyone is doing his or her part for the beauty of the
whole. We yearn for a church that replicates the biblical church in Acts
where no one sits on the sideline as a non-contributing spectator.
We envision a church that refuses to be ingrown or self-focused but instead
channels its redemptive power into the world. A church which does not
abandon its elderly, orphaned, or widowed, but visits, loves, and values them. We envision a church so full of love and amazed by grace that peo-
ple cannot constrain themselves from sharing generously of their resources
and material possessions with those in need. We hunger for a church which
is flexible and sensitive in allowing God’s Holy Spirit to lead, guide, and
empower us in all that we do.
