Why Should We Still Read Antigone?

Stand up!

Antigone stood up for what she believed regardless of the consequences she would be facing and her position in life, setting an example for individuals today to stand up for what they believe in.

Example

Oprah Winfrey, a billion dollar network, started out in the poor streets. Many people looked down to her because she had the idea of becoming something big under her condition. Despite the initial failure she faced while on the journey to achieve her dreams, she was able to become one of the greatest and most powerful woman the world has come to know. Oprah is similar to Antigone in terms of standing up for beliefs regardless of their social standings. Neither of those woman were respected but, that did not stop either of them to achieve greatness.

Believe

Some people believe that one person cannot make a difference, but through the examples of Antigone and Oprah we are shown that regardless of ones station in life we can affect many. Both Oprah and Antigone came from bad circumstances and were not expected to achieve much but each proved society wrong by effecting a large population.

Conclusion

Oprah inspired many to achieve great things and influence many people in life. Antigone showed others not to give up in what they believe in and that anything is possible. Both heroin's prove that one person can affect many and bring hope to people despite their origins.
