Andrea Di Paolo was born in Italy in 1978. He graduated in Piano and in Composition (Bachelor and Master degree) and he has attended many Italian conservatoires like Milan, Rome and Pescara; he got a Master degree in New Musical Languages, with a thesis intitled “In the sounds and the signs; perspectives of contemporary art”. He studied History and Aesthetics of Music, Organ, Gregorian chant and Electronic Music; essential for his music formation has been studying piano with Maria Cristina Boccadamo. In 2009 he got a diploma in Composition at the CRR Conservatoire of Strasbourg (France) with Mark André. He attended composition classes of Luciano Berio, Arvo Part, Gyorgy Kurtag, Salvatore Sciarrino, Beat Furrer. He got a second master degree in “Manager of musical communication” (G. D’Annunzio University). Fundamental in his human and artistical development has been his meeting with Valentin Silvestrov and his long travels in Armenia, Iceland, Israel, Morocco, Scotland and among the populations of Eastern Russia. His works, for solo instrument, ensemble and orchestra, were performed by important musical institutions, in Europe, America and Russia, broadcast by Radio France and Radio RAI. He has performed as a pianist in Italian and foreigns theaters, including Portugal, Serbia, France, England, Norway, Bosnia, Ukraine, Spain, Armenia, Russia, Germany, Romania, Hungary. In 2008 he won the International Competition for composers “From Romanticism to Contemporary”, sponsored by the European Commission with his work “L’AZUR” from a Mallarmé’s text (Bruxelles/Bucharest). In 2010, he got a Diploma of high specialization in Composition at the National Academy of Santa Cecilia (Rome, Italy). In 2012 he won the 16th Edvard Grieg Competition for Composers in Oslo (Norway) with his “SONATA” for solo cello and was invited at the Akademia Muzyczna (faculty of Composition) of Poznan (Poland) during the International Contemporary Composer Forum. In 2012/2013 he was invited at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (faculty of Art and Culture) in Ukraine to give some lectures on the music of XX century and on his chamber works. In 2013 he won the International Composition Competition for Percussion Ensemble VP13 in Marmande/ Bordeaux (France) with is work “ARCAICA” for four percussionists. In 2015 it was published his first album named “Das Universum” recorded in Lviv, Ukraine. Andrea Di Paolo has collaborated with: Lviv Symphonic Orchestra, Valentin Silvestrov, Ensemble Algoritmo, Ensemble Accroche Note, Solisti Aquilani, Armand Angster, Mario Caroli, Liliya Gratyla, Luce Zurita, Valeria Kurbatova, Dima Nikolaev, Ensemble Ricochet, Olexandr Kozarenko, Francois Kubler, Marco Rogliano, Lamberg String Quartet, Ivanna Mytrogann, Alexander Zagorinski, Marco Angius, Modular Quartet, Dmytro Tavanets, Clement Fauconnet, Galician Camera Choir, Pauline Haas, Vasil Yazziniak, Igor Shcherbakov, Tonino Guerra, Aram Gharabekian, National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia and many other musicians, composers and artists. Since 2008 he teaches Composition, Harmony and Analysis in Italian Conservatories (University of Music); he is actually teaching Harmony and Analysis at the “Niccolò Piccinni ” Conservatory in Bari (Sud Italy). In 2013 he was artistic and executive director of the project “Orient / Occident” – Music Composers’ Forum – in Kiev (Ukraine) sponsored by the National Composers` Union of Ukraine, with more than 20 composers from all over the world. In addition to his musical activity, he is interested in analog and digital photography based on the technique of black and white.
