Enlighten Festival returns to Canberra in 2018, illuminating the capital for its biggest year yet with an extended program of arts, culture, entertainment, music and performance.

Presented by Singapore Airlines, this year's Enlighten Festival will activate the Parliamentary Triangle, satellite event sites and new Precinct Partners with a diverse program of daytime and evening events.

As Lonely Planet’s 3rd best city in the world to visit in 2018, Canberra will come alive with a diverse program of free and ticketed events including large-scale architectural

projections, exclusive and unique experiences at iconic national attractions, alfresco food offerings, world-class musical performances, fireworks displays and more.

Bringing communities and people together, major events play a vital role in making Canberra a great place to live, work and visit. Enlighten Festival is no exception, and in 2018 the extended events program and new activation spaces within Canberra City and the Australian National University offer something for everyone to explore, experience and enjoy.

METAMORPHOSISWhere nature and technology meet — a giant glowing landscape of musical cocoons. Enter in, reach out and make contact to discover their unique sonic personalities. From realistic insect clicks, chirps, and chatters to distorted sci-fi resonance.

The cocoons are invisibly interconnected, as you explore, you may see a ripple of light pulse through many, or hear the whole field respond in harmony. The cocoons are symbols of hope, and growth; the metamorphosis that is possible when we live in harmony with our community and nature.

ANGLER ABYSSCome closer if you dare! The fascination, strange and bioluminescence of Angler Abyss draws inquisitive prey closer.

As your adrenaline rises you’re faced with being swallowed whole, gobbled down, unexpectedly by this grotesquely beautiful creature from the deepest, darkest abyss.

Transfixed you tumble down the cavernous gut, masticated and digested down the papillae lined mouth interior. Mmmmmm delicious!

Inflatable art that will blow your mind! Angler Abyss is the creation of artist Felipe Reynolds, a W.A.A.P.A design graduate who has worked internationally as a set and costume designer for opera, theatre, dance and television. Wander through the jaws of the giant inflatable sea creature if you dare!

WHAT LIES BENEATH?These ethereal divers from another place and time bring their world to the surface.

What Lies Beneath is a nod towards all that is unseen — the mysterious things that exist under the surface, or cloaked in the shadows of night.

This roving installation captures the essence of the deep, with the emergence of human forms that would normally inhabit the depths of the ocean silently exploring our terra firma. As the characters wander through their new environment, they carry with them secrets hidden from prying eyes, illuminated only through clouds of mist.

What Lies Beneath was originally commissioned by the Barangaroo Delivery Authority for exhibition in Sydney Australia in 2017.

CANBERRA BALLOON SPECTACULARWake up to the view of hot air balloons floating across the city with the Canberra Balloon Spectacular.

This mesmerising view is best appreciated from the lawns of Old Parliament House over a hot breakfast, as you watch the balloons inflate. Held over nine days from Saturday 10 March to Sunday 18 March, more than 30 hot air balloons from across the globe will take to the skies.

SEE THE CITY IN A NEW LIGHTAs the City Renewal Authority partners with Enlighten Festival in 2018 from 2–11 March.

Start your Enlighten journey exploring all the city has to offer after nightfall. See the fairy lights, and find hidden gems in the city’s nooks and crannies. Take the driver’s seat as you create, see and play with light. Keep your eye out for interactive installations, workshops and other unexpected surprises.
