INTRODUCTION

Android is a Linux-based mobile operatingsystem developed and distributed by Google inconjunction with the Open Handset Alliance.

Initially developed by Android Inc. before its purchaseby Google in 2005.

Designed primarily

for touchscreen smartphones and tablet computers.

HISTORY

Android, Inc. was founded in Palo Alto, California inOctober 2003 by Andy Rubin , Rich Miner ,Nick Sears

and Chris White.

Google acquired Android Inc. on August 17, 2005,making Android Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary ofGoogle.

The first commercially available phone to run Androidwas the HTC Dream, released on October 22, 2008.

Android applications run in a sandbox.

Before installing an application, the Play Store displays allrequired permissions.

the operating system that does not have access to the restof the system's resources, unless access permissions aregranted by the user when the application is installed.

CHALLENGES

CPU typically runs 500-600 Mhz.

RAM available to an App may only be a few megabytes.

Disk (flash) access is very slow.

Lifecycle - apps must pause/quit often, and restore to

give the illusion that they are always running.

Network access may be slow and (very) intermittent.

CONCLUSION

It support multiple languages like java,c,c++.

The open and customizable nature of the operatingsystem allows it to be used on other electronics.

It often bring new features and updates to devices fasterthan through the official manufacturer/carrier channels.
